Insight on closure of main institution at Walla Walla

[][/PHPPHP]Was wondering if anybody in WA has any insight into the closure of WSP, and the downhill effect of rifs taking place throughout Eastern WA? I have almost 3 years in at AHCC, and if they decide to close WSP I could possibly lose my job here. With the loss of about 269 jobs at WSP. Assuming at least half of those would be officers. These budget cuts over here are extreme.

Never thought that I would have to worry about job security working at a prison. Especially since my wife is an officer at a female institution over here that could be closed down as well.:stone

Hey there WA-CO,

I don't really have any "insight" into suspected closures of units at WSP.....unfortunately the RIF's that are taking place are state-wide right now. Especially with the prison closures across the state and MICC going to a camp custody level....changes are immense across the board! Have you looked at CRCC as an option? It's crazy times right now for WA corrections....best of luck to you....

Don't feel like the lone ranger.

Iowa is laying off Correctional Staff and the legislature is contemplating closing 3 out of 4 minimum live out prison camps.

We however are not closing any medium or maximum joints.

Our people can't transfer instead of getting laid off. If laid off they are terminated.

Good Luck.

Re: Insight on closure of main institution at Walla Walla

Okay. If the state closes anything at WSP it will be the older East Complex (formerly the Main Institution). we now have 5 new housing units and a new hospital in full operation with plans to build 4 more new living units. they are also going to expand the new HUB kitchen. They are now hiring for new intermittent officers so they can use them to reduce overtime cost. The last bunch of intermittent officers all have full time positions now.
