Sounds similar to the Re Integration Program (RIP) for the IMU guys. Do you guys have that at CB? It's wicked contravursal here, mainly because we have 2 inmates and 6 counselors on it.

We have a former closed custody unit (99 cells) that is used for the IMU Step Down program. It's also has our duck pod where all new arrivals are housed, and it is sometimes used for Seg overflow.

The way it is supposed to work is that the IMU inmates are released to a pod that essentially segregation cells, but they are allowed limited movement out of the cells with a bit of dayroom time. They progress from there to a less restrictive pod, and from there to a third even less restrictive pod before they are release to a general population unit.

It is in the unit where the Youthful Offender Program was previously housed.

I moved this thread to the Washington forum since it is now old news and we are primarily talking about Washington State subject matter.

Sorry about that, I still have tons of questions, and am holding my breath until the 13th.

Nothing to be sorry about. The article will stay visible longer here than in the "Today's News" section where it's likely to drop off the page.

I didn't mean in any way to hinder discussion...just thought that this should go here since it's mostly about Washington. Fire away with the questions if you have any to ask here.

What happens on the 13th?

the 13th is my psych interview for stafford. Hoping this works out, because I'm pretty burned out working where I am now, and starting in corrections feels pretty exciting to me. It may eventually get old hat, but it's something new, something different.

It's pretty easy, just be straight forward like I'm sure you were on the test. What I believe happens is that you take that huge friggin test, then it spits some document out with a few questions, then an "expert" just reviews the stuff with you, and that's it.

Just make sure you can run. Gotta run 1.5 miles in under 16 something, and believe it or not, some people do not pass it because they have never ran.

I'll also add some, and it's not that I'm saying the DOC is a bad place, because it isn't, but you should really look at county jobs or LE work. Also look at Oregon DOC. County has some better pay and beni's and has an easier progression out to the streets if you want. The reason I am saying LE or Oregon is because of the retirement. At the DOC you will have to work well into your 60's to retire, which could be 40 years depending on your current age. Oregon has a decent 20 year retirement. Also I'm a big advocate of joining the Military Reserves or National Guard. You can do 20 years there and get some extra money per month and full medical insurance for little to no money depending on your situation.

This is just my 2 cents from my research, figured I would pass it on to you.

I've been running a lot. I'm not as fast as I would like to be, but I'm faster than that. My last timed 1.5 run I did it in 13min flat. I'm not really nervous about the actual interview with the psych. Just nervous in general about the overall process. Believe it or not, it "looks" like it will be about a %35 increase in pay. If one of you local guys wouldn't mind sending me a pm with about how much you actually took home when you first started, I'd appreciate it

Meh, I'll put it out there, I take home around 2500 a month.

Another problem with the DOC right now is the difference from starting pay to max pay is around 500 a month. So the guy I work with who has 39 years in makes 500 more a month than me.

But there is always mad over time.

Thanks for the info robeans! I'm actually looking into applying with pierce county, I failed the background with thurston county ( they will not say why ) so I'm "hoping" that if I don't like WA DoC that I can at least use it as some good experience and a stepping stone.
