I'd have issues with it as well. You should have an assigned firearm, imo. To stress marksmanship and qualifications but give you a random firearm is insane. Do they train you on the other gear? Baton, taser, etc?

Batons, tasers, stun shields and 40mm are all depending on postion. The average everyday CO gets AR15, 9mm and OC training.

You guys don't ALL get cuffs??!! EVERY C/O outside of a control booth/tower is issued cuffs at CBCC.

Wow. I thought WSP was more hardcore than CBCC.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I meant. Even our minimum security staff carry cuffs.

OK. That sounds better.

You never know though...at certain WA DOC institutions, you have to get permission from a Lieutenant before applying handcuffs in most situations and then you have to fill out a special handcuffing incident report.

MCC (Monroe) and WCCW (Purdy) are the two that I am aware of. WCC (Shelton) had a LT transfer from Purdy, and she tried to institute the same thing at WCC. That didn't last at all. I'm not sure how it all played out at MCC, but from some folks I know that were working there, I do know that they were interfering with a C/Os ability to decide when to cuff up an inmate.

Example: Say inmate Jones is angry and starts yelling at staff. C/O Smith tells Inmate Jones to turn around and cuff up because of his escalating behavior. At MCC or WCCW, a C/O could get in trouble for cuffing the inmate without first obtaining permission.

At CBCC, C/Os are allowed to cuff an inmate anytime that an officer believes the inmate is presenting a threat. A sergeant or lieutenant will then evaluate the situation and decide if the inmate can be released from the cuffs or if he needs to go to the cooldown cage near the lieutenant's office or to seg.

I didn't realize anywhere in WA state was like that. It's sad to know that supervisors/administrators are so ok with neutering their officers.

Oh no way, have you heard what's going on at Airway right now? You couldn't pay me enough to work there.

At WSP, as long as your doing the right thing, most of our Sgts and Lt's will take a bullet for you.

I presume you are talking about turning AHCC into a "therapeutic community".
