Intoxicated Spokane inmates prompt contraband search
Intoxicated Spokane inmates prompt contraband search | The Seattle Post-Intelligencer
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS SPOKANE, Wash. -- Four Geiger Corrections Center inmates who mixed hand sanitizer and Kool-Aid to make an alcoholic drink became so rowdy after downing the beverage that guards intervened Friday, a Spokane County sheriff's spokesman said. Backed by four tactical and SWAT teams, the guards later launched a facility-wide search for contraband, Sgt. Dave Reagan said. "The inmates out here at Geiger Corrections are considered low-risk inmates - when they're sober," Reagan said. "But when they are affected by drugs or alcohol they become something other than low-risk." Officers finally strapped two of the intoxicated inmates into restraint chairs, Reagan said. The four intoxicated inmates were segregated from the rest of Geiger's 511 inmates, many of whom were moved outdoors. When the weather turned rainy, some inmates became restless, so authorities moved them into the gym. The unrest did not appear to be an organized effort, Geiger Capt. John McGrath said Friday. The inmates may be moody in part because of a decision to suspend Geiger volunteer programs pending review, McGrath said. On Thursday, Geiger inmate Roger H. Nordling, 54, escaped during his Bible study after a volunteer let him out of a small building to get fresh air. He remained at large Friday. The Spokane County Jail is led by Spokane County Sheriff Ozzie Knezovich, while Geiger is under the jurisdiction of Spokane County commissioners. --- Information from: The Spokesman-Review, SpokesmanReview.com |

Re: Intoxicated Spokane inmates prompt contraband search
Wow that's two major news making incidents in a week, not good.
Hey Watchman, did you hear about that CO for Spokane Co that donkey kicked an inmate to death during a cell extraction earlier this year? Didn't make news here but I was up Spokompton for a trip and it was in their paper. I couldn't believe how messed up Spokane Co is. |

Re: Intoxicated Spokane inmates prompt contraband search
Nope. In fact, recently, there were a few geniuses at CBCC at the Tuesday night A.A. meeting caught with it. Shortly after all the gallon jugs of it were removed from our facility and replaced with another non-alcoholic brand. The Medical Dept. is the only area now authorized to have the old stuff.
