I just don't get it
Ok, so I call the captain's office today, and I didn't get the job at clallam bay. I calmly ask, "Do you know why?" the answer: "It looks like the psych exam".
Now, I've never claimed to be the most logical person on the planet, but I really have a hard time believing that I'm not psychologically healthy enough to start a career in corrections. I've worked in the same position, in the medical field, for the last 6.5 years, and have done well with it. I have normal relationships, I have a couple of good friends, and a few more that I'm not terribly close with. I have a good relationship with my family, and I don't do drugs or drink excessively. In spite of this I have failed a psych exam for the second time with DoC...with the same psychologist I should add. What in the world can I do? |

Re: I just don't get it
You have to give us more input here...what kind of Psychological evaluation was it?
Did he just ask you questions, show you crazy pictures or what?

Re: I just don't get it
Sorry, no shapes or anything like that, he just asked me questions.
What kind of relationship do you have with your parents? How much debt are you in? What's the longest you've worked at a job? Pretty straight questions, at least I thought. And then he gave me a math/logic test that was written. Of course he also has the 900 fill in the bubble mmpi stuff to compare me to. |

Re: I just don't get it
perhaps you did too good on the test. They may think you are too smart/educated or too normal to work in corrections.
It takes a somewhat twisted mind to work corrections They might not want to hire somebody who they will spend money and time to train, and then you will get bored and move on to a better job.

Re: I just don't get it
When I went to talk to the psychologist about my exam results and medication, he told me that there were some inconsitancies with my results and he asked me if I knew why that was. I told him " I have no idea why that is, I tried to answer truthfully and instinctually with every question." I think he was BS'n me and wanted to see if I would confess to something they dont know about. Thats my opinion anyway. Maybe they thought I was too straight, same goes for you.

Re: I just don't get it
We had the same problems at WSP a couple years ago and it was just one of three psych evaluators we had. All of his psych evals were rejected. Since then some of the rejected have retested and have passed and are now working at WSP. So maybe you need to talk with someone and try to get retested and hope you don't get the same evaluator....

Thursco, this answer from Gooseneck is likely very close to the truth about what may have occurred. The Psychological exam is designed more to see if you have answered one way in one part of the exam and another way in other parts of the exam. If you recall, you actually answered psych questions at least two other times before you sat down in from of the Psychologist. First the 400 question, four book, four hour exam and then the yellow sheet moments before you met with the Psychologist for further verbal questioning. If there was ANY inconsistency in what you said between those three things then you could be disqualified as a candidate. I must admit that the 400 question test is tricky because you start filling in all those circles and after a while you have to check yourself because all the circles start to look the same and you find yourself circling the wrong answer. It could happen just that easy... I caught myself on a couple of occasions accidentally |
