Re: Wa Doc ??

We just had around 20 newbies come on line at CBCC. Up until this point, there has been mandatory OT on all shifts. We'll see how much effect the new group has.

I suspect that also means the On-Calls/Intermitants will not see much work either... huh?

Re: Wa Doc ??

That's a little scary, I was told by someone in HR that on-calls were working 40 hours a week. I'm not ready to pick up and move my family for a part-time gig.

Any one from MICC who knows about this please post.

Hey Madclown check out this website Department of Corrections - Employment

I'm from Walla Walla and like it here. We are currently hiring and WA DOC is the only Department hiring in state right now. If you would rather work in a sheriff's office Clark County or King County pay real good and have good beifits.

Clark County... Hiring Freeze on Custody Officers (ask me how I know), and beside even if you could take the test today in Clark County and passed it at the top, you would be merged into it and almost one year from pinning on that custody officers sheild.

Actually, the opposite is true in many cases: Any holes are filled by intermittents first, then volunteers, then relief staff. This was insanely annoying for me as the intermittent co's got all the tower posts and other "easy" spots, then the volunteers, and as I was a relief staff, I got stuck with the scraps that no-one else wanted. I don't care at the moment now though, I just caught another bid and have a 'home' now. I know exactly where I'll be every day now. woo hoo.

Here is an update:

We ended up deciding on Tacoma as our home to be, as a result I applied at McNeil Island. I put in an app. for CO I and II over a month ago but as of yet haven't heard a word back from the recruiter. I have left several voice and emails but have not heard anything. We found a nice home on Anderson Island and we are ready to go. Just waiting on the call from DOC.

Any Officers from McNeil on the forum?
I'm from Walla Walla but know a little about MICC. It's an old Federal Prison that the state has taken over. You have to park on the main land and ride a ferry over to the island. The states E.R.T. and S.E.R.T. trains at MICC and from what I heard it rains alot. Tacoma I personaly wouldn't live in but some poeple like it, I think that they have a street gang problem so you might want to be real picky at were in Tacoma you plan to live. You might even check out other burbs like Puyallup or Tukwila.

Re: Wa Doc ??

Thanks,

I checked around the state and we decided that we would settle on a place called "Anderson Island". We have a pretty unique situation in that we have a home there if I get picked up or it turns into a semi vacation home if I don't.

The crime rate on the island is near zero, Tacoma doesn't sound all that appealing but it will be ok to do our shopping or spend a day.

I've had my limit of gangbangers here in Phoenix, I deal with the turds every day.

McNeil for some reason caught my interest and I really want to work there, the area is beautiful and the commute would be great (ferry ride to stellacoom, then another ferry ride to the facility). The place has alot of history so I am hooked.

I just need to know that if I get hired, I can get at least 40 hours a week.

If you are hired and complete the CORE training yes you will get 40 hours a week. Most facilities in the state will have overtime available too. Even during your CORE training you will get 40 hours a week. CORE training has good hours mon - fri weekends off, 0800hrs to 1630hrs. The CORE training program is about 4 weeks long and teaches new officer about working as a correctional officer in Washington State. If you have worked in an adult correctional facility for over 3 years you can put Corrections and Custody Officer 2 on your app and start out with more pay and I think only 6 months probation. New officers start out as C/O 1's have a year probation to become a C/O 2 then 6 month probation until they get bid rights for a total of 18 months probation. If you can get hired as a C/O 2 you do not have to do the 1st year in probation.
