WOW! I did not know this. I just go notified I made it to Larch Mountain CC and the I will be starting the Academy at one of two places... Tacoma or some other location (not certain where) on the 18th of August.

I did not know that they scrapped the PAT. I have been preparing for it and now I've learned that I may not even need to worry about it.

Is this still true?

I got an email from Monroe complex about a week ago. I emailed them today because I think there was a glitch. The email was supposed to give me the date of when I'm supposed to come in for the interview, but there was no date, just zeros. I'll probably hear something back in the next couple of days.

Have you had your interview with WA yet? What was it like?

Jake,
Your'e going in the right direction. Coyote Ridge is a new facility north of Kennewick. It gets warm in the summer and cold in the winter (so what else is new??) I've heard of some good staff going there. But keep an open mind. Go to Welcome To The Washington State Department of Corrections Web Site and that web site should help answer your questions.

Thanks, XPBSP

I'll see what happens. I was dead-set on becoming a C.O. but now I'm at a cross-road. I'm really interested in a career in Corrections, but there is something else that floats my boat, too. I have a lot of thinking to do, I'm not getting any younger

Thanks for the link. I've been to their site before to apply, guess I should start doing more research about the rest of the process.

Jake

Re: Wa Doc ??

Thanks for the replies folks!

Here is an update:

We ended up deciding on Tacoma as our home to be, as a result I applied at McNeil Island. I put in an app. for CO I and II over a month ago but as of yet haven't heard a word back from the recruiter. I have left several voice and emails but have not heard anything. We found a nice home on Anderson Island and we are ready to go. Just waiting on the call from DOC.

Any Officers from McNeil on the forum?

Madclown, I applied to Monroe complex in the middle of June. I received an email from them near the beginning of this month. So, I heard something in a little less than two months.

However, the email stated that they are currently not interviewing for Monroe complex. I'm not sure about anywhere else. Have you checked their website? If I recall correctly, I remember something about not Washington state not hiring.

Here's a link. Not sure if Correctional facilities fall under this.

I dunno, I am at the Tacoma CJC Academy right now and there are approximately 25 other Officers here with me. Just about all of us have only been aboard about 2 weeks and I understand that between all Academies being conducted around the State at this moment there are no less than 200 Officers in various stages of Academy Training as I write this.

One of the other Officers here with me has just said he also applied at Monroe and he is still awaiting to hear from them. However, he got did get called almost immediately for McNeil Island (2 months from application to hire).

Re: Wa Doc ??

Correctional Officers and many other job classes in DOC are not affected by the hiring freeze. Monroe may have finally caught up in their hiring for a bit, but it isn't likely to last long.

Clallam Bay is getting closer to having our staffing shortage solved, but we are not quite there yet. There should still be many job openings at Walla Walla and Coyote Ridge.

MCC has been pushing a huge amount of new hires through CORE recently. From what I hear, we've got more C/O's than available post. Many of the recent graduates have been assigned as Extra Relief, Training Relief, or Intermitent.

So I guess that means that MCC has exceeded its staffing goals. That is good to hear, especially considering the challenges they were facing several months ago.
