WA DOC Hiring Practice
So I just found out that WA DOC suspended the physical agility test portion of the hiring process in an attempt to attract female officers.
![]() Just when I thought our staff couldn't get any better.... Supposedly the female application pass rate of the PAT is 12%. Given that the WA DOC PAT test is one of impressive physical astonishment, (12 Sit ups, 18 Push Ups, 17 Min Mile and Half) I can understand the suspension of the high requirements put forth. I can't wait to see what this brings... ![]() MCC8858

Re: WA DOC Hiring Practice
I worked for WA DOC at MCC and can understand why they got rid of that brutal physical test. But i don't think it will attract any better worse staff then are already there. I mean half the staff can barely make it to the top of the towers let alone run (or walk) a physical test.

Re: WA DOC Hiring Practice
Yeah, Lowering the minimum age to 18 last year wasn't enough. Now we got a bunch of kids fresh out of high school still trying to be popular. No, it's not that bad, but there are a couple.

Re: WA DOC Hiring Practice
When I tested several years ago, there were no women taking the PAT with my group. I think they discarded the PAT so they could hire more people or at least get more to test. If they are too much of a mouth-breather to do the job, they're still going to be weeded out. The only thing that the state can do to get better, more qualified staff is to pay more money. If they pay more money, more people will test. If more people test, they can weed out the nerds instead of hiring anyone with a pulse. The funny thing about all of this is they have to go back and talk to everyone that failed the PAT over the last couple of months and offer them an interview. "I know you had a heart attack doing half a sit up, but how would you like to stand mainline at WSR......?"

I did not know that they scrapped the PAT. I have been preparing for it and now I've learned that I may not even need to worry about it. Is this still true? ![]() |

When I got the call on Friday I was told that I would be picking up my uniforms and everything over 3 days and then off to te academy on the following Monday. I was wondering "when do I take the PAT?" Now I see why it was never scheduled. So I go to the academy for Six weeks? Any I dea of where I will be going? I thought there was only one academy (Burien, WA) just outside of Tacoma. But is there another one? |
