Ah the British and their tea. I can't imagine anyone here ever running out of the unit to go have a quick cup of tea

At Coleman, they mostly removed all of the 30 minute duty free lunches at the pen's. Both sides agreed to it since it was such a major obstacle for management to get reliefs down to the units and the staff were no longer required to be at the sallyport at 745.

An Hour as in 60 minutes, ... from the door??? Holy S#!t we are timed from the time the relief shows up and it takes 5 minutes to get out. Then getting through the metal detector and back on post Whew! We do however have the "Hard Time Cafe" at our disposal which a lot of us partake. It's $2.50
(I think) at least that's what a receipt said on it I found behind a table in there once (lol) The AW came in one day and put his card in the Debitek Machine and it started printing off a receipt and a C.O. at the table says real loud "What's that noise!" We all lost it. the AW turned around and grinned.

I don't smoke.. At night, depending on staff coverage we give smoke breaks to smokers. Sometimes I take a Non-Smoker, Smoke break. I figure if they can get a break... why can't I? It's usually to grab some change and buy a Pepsi then going back in.

Our union has a grievance right now on a new portal to portal issue involving that metal detector. I was waiting for that one to happen. I have to say our Union does a great job resolving this portal to portal issue. We have had two settlements in the last 5 years. Nice chunk of change!

As I was reading this, I was saddened to think that the [narratives] have to be included. This is one of the best parts of one of the best movies ever. If it has to be explained, one should have to surrender their man card.

Now there is something for your union to fight for! There is no way you should be timed while still inside the prison. Should the brown stuff hit the spinny thing beofre you clear the walls would you jump in and lend a hand? Of course you would. Therefore you are still on duty. It isn't until you clear the gate that you are on your time. Either your union is asleep on this or things are very very different over the pond.

We lock up at 12.15 for a 12.30 lunch. Roll correct is normally given about 12.25 allowing us 5 mins to get out of the gate prior to our lunch break starting. As long as we are at the gate for 13.30 (or at the end of the line that has formed) then we can't be touched. This normally means that we don't unlock until about 13.55 when it should be 13.45.

Ho-Hum such is life! The rules are there for a reason, why not use them to your advantage?!

Our union has been fighting that battle for many years. Thus far, the agency has been allowed to have its cake, and eat it too. Reason & common sense only apply when it is to the advantage of the agency, and a disadvantage to the employee.

The P to P issue also comes from having supervisors who are pr***s.

Someone who will charge you 15 minutes AWOL for being 5 minutes late and expect you to suck up the multiple times you get relieved 15 minutes late.

No dice, send me my big, fat, portal check...

I do not see much happening as the union can not make the management resolve the Portal to Portal on screening much less lunch breaks. Lunch breaks and screening would be a nightmare.
