Try doing it as a white African-American.......they think you are lying on the app. I even explain to them that my heritage is from South Africa, but they don't care.

It would be a much shorter list to say what's right with it.

I'd start the list if I could think of anything good about it.

Because it's not just BOP-wide-- it's DOJ-wide. Once, I had to send an e-mail to a staff member in psychology who just happened to share the same name as a DEA agent. I sent the e-mail regarding some nut eating his own sh!t in the MHU. The addresses fill-in automatically so you don't make any spelling mistakes- and this guy had the same name as the psych staff. Whoops.

I got a big "WTF?" response from that guy the next day...

Groupwise sucks.

I have Outlook at my Guard unit.

It saves all my e-mails for years.

I have no problem with the Outlook address book.

The address book for Groupwise freezes up when you are trying to find someone.

If someone has a common name, good luck in figuring that one out.

Sometimes you can't find what institution someone is at.

I e-mailed the wrong Jim (James) Spivy already with an OWCP question.

And why can't I e-mail the CRW/E-Board when my President can?

I can't e-mail the CRW/Stewards listing, either.

Outlook lets me find people, phone numbers, departments, etc.

If you want to update Groupwise, I think you have to personally get CS to update you phone numbers, job title, etc.

Good luck on that one.

Of course, we have most computers here that were last replaced in 2002, I think some things have changed in 6 years.

But I hear that unit management will get new computers (or newer) because of the new Web-based Sentry coming out.

So we will see...

I posted my pic on the new system, and bing it don't look like a driver's license pic. I like being able to update my information without a 6 month waiting period from computer svcs.

Unless you don't spell the name properly or fail to look to the right of the email address header, you won't find the name your looking for. If your looking for someone's name in the BOP, try sallyport.

Sometimes you can't find what institution someone is at.

Imagine giving some staff the ability to update Groupwise? It would be a nightmare.
When I started in '92, we never dealt with worrying about who got a computer. Emailing a steward is a less acceptable way of correspondance than a phone call. Sometimes, having a computer in a unit for an officer causes more problems than what its worth.

Well, I might have stayed in custody if we had computers back then. I can't type at all on a typewriter. I try to phone people as a first resort, but just with the E-Board we have one F/S very early AM person, two custody M/W people, on Nursing D/W and me on D/W. Too many different shifts and all different days off, so we e-mail a lot at work and also to our home e-mails.

For a unit officer, using the computer is a good tool if you use it as such.

But I know many people are busy e-mailing stupid movies and going to websites that give them the computer version of the crabs...
