Mamma says saving sick leave is the Devil. I will be lucky if I have 1 hour when I am ready to retire. To the door baby.

Hey, anyone actually retarded enough to save their leave and cash it in at 8 Cents on the Dollar deserves to be ripped-off.

Don't say anything. Just let that evil ol' bitch, Mother Nature, have her way.

The only thing I could say that is good is if you unexpectedly have to retire (medical reasons, etc.) or get the urge to quit to start a business at least you get something.

You would have to have an ungodly amount of leave beyond the 500 hours in order to come close to the $10,000 payoff, unless you are the Warden or a physician or other high dollar job.

I mean it has taken me 9 years to have 640ish S/L on the books and I have used a few weeks worth of S/L (flu, sinus trouble, cat bite, bad headaches caused by an evil boss, minor surgery, etc).

Re: Sick Leave Payback for the Fed's

use to be a good rule of thumb under the csrs retirement build it up from 800 to 1200 hours in cases of emergency ie.. cancer, stroke ,or whatever, but once you get down to 18 monhts or 2 years start working on it then take the last 2 or 3 months off just to not tempt fate:but with the fers i would prob. not keep over 5 to 600 hrs!!!!!!!!!

Hours Value
Annual 240.00 $5,863.20
Sick 631.00 n/a

Here is the value of my A/L as a GL-6.10 per National Finance Center.

So if you use 500 hours S/L, that is at least $10,000 for the average joe fed

Using 2 days per month now, 24 per yr. Balance is over the 1200 mark. As the 2 yr mark nears, I see a large drop in my balance. At the 1 yr mark..
