No. Romney needed a way to raise taxes without raising taxes so he upped the fees on everything.

Right now at Canaan, it's $10. It's supposed to go up to $52. Some towns are higher, some are a flat rate, others based on your job.
Here is is 1% of everything you make, to include TSP, health benifits and all.

Re: Local Occupational Tax

I neglected to mention we (PA) also have a local tax paid to the town in which you live. Fortunately, mine doesn't tax you. However, the guys that live along Rt 6, in the Scranton area up to Carbondale pay anywhere from .5% up to 3%. With the exception of Scranton, none of the other towns deduct it from your pay. It's assessed and payable during the tax season for that year.

I've never had to pay a local or muni taxes in the other states in which I've resided. I got lucky when I chose the town I live in. I never considered asking about a local tax.

Gunner it sounds like we are getting screwed over.....I spoke with her (tax lady) the other day and she was really rude and I was as patient and nice as I could be. I called so I could mail mine in and she said attach a copy of your W-2 and when I told her what I earned she bluntly asked "WHEN DID U START?" as if I was gonna lie ..LOL I am new in 2007 and only earned a few months pay...

I am hearing alot of bad things about that 1% tax and maybe someone with legal background will step up and see what is going on. I am not educated in any of that but I do hear they are not able to back up alot of questions BOP employees are asking them.

Tell them to show in city law, county law and state law, where it is legal for them to do so. In a nice diplomatic manner of course. City Of Saint Louis, MO used to have a city income tax when I worked there back in the '80's.

Hang in there, because the last I heard the union had gotten one of the national lawyers involved. The problem we are having is, they are wanting to change the rules every year, and sontimes right in the middle of tax time. If they think they are going to come up short they change the rule again. In addition, i expect them to try and raise it for next year. However, i hope i am gone by then so i wont have to deal with them.

Re: Local Occupational Tax

it's just another way of getting screwed over by our local goverments.. I used to pay a 1% earnings tax for living in the city limits of Kansas City.. moved to the country and now I have to pay an extra property tax that the city voted in without taking it to the citizens in the form of a vote.
