Re: BOP funds

Along those lines, I remember reading about the Chairman of the el Rukin, Jeff Fort trying the same thing. If memory serves, he was even invited to visit the White House back in the 1990s--to be honored for all of his wonderful community activism.

I believe Jeff Fort is still in the ADX...

Close "cousins" on the south side of Chicago. Hoover's influence was huge and many local politicians were pushing for his parole, chanting his plan of "Growth and Development".

Problem was Hoover got indicted on the Federal charges that he's now being entertained on. Scores of his crew went down too, we see their effect in the Pens and Mediums now.

Just wonder how close the "O" got to all this "organizing on Chicago's south side". Maybe someone local will check it out....

Re: BOP funds

fort was about 20 years ahead of Hoover's Growth and Develpoment scheme.

It'd be interesting to check out the participants/attendees in the rallies that were staged for Hoover's release. I recall lots of local politicians, academic leaders and the other Chicago liberal usuals singing Hoovers praises.

When they hooked him up and took him from a CAMP in to Fed custody, the camp had a huge disturbance and the Illinois pens got locked down as a precaution.

Here is where I found the annual pay raises for federal employees (click the download link for a small .PDF file). It shows raises by the year they took effect, so you have to add one to align them with the president who presided when the raises were passed. In other words, the first year under Reagan (who took office in 1981) would be 1982 on this chart.

That's a good place to start, given how few of our employees have 26 years of seniority. Here goes:

1982: 4.0%
1983: 0.0%
1984: 4.0%
1985: 3.5%
1986: 0.0%
1987: 3.0%
1988: 2.0%
1989: 4.1% (Reagan eight year average: 2.6% per year)
1990: 3.6%
1991: 4.1%
1992: 4.2%
1993: 3.7% (George Bush eight year average: 3.9% per year)
1994: 4.0%
1995: 2.6%
1996: 2.4%
1997: 3.0%
1998: 2.9%
1999: 3.6%
2000: 4.8%
2001: 3.7% (Bill Clinton eight year average: 2.9% per year)
2002: 4.6%
2003: 4.1%
2004: 4.1%
2005: 3.5%
2006: 3.1%
2007: 2.2%
2008: 3.5% (George W. Bush seven year (so far) average: 3.6% per year)
All though these numbers might be true, you might want to check the amount and averages that each administration has given to the BOP as a whole.
In a Pen, I never had to worry as much about my safety in the Clinton admin, unlike the Bush admin when it came to man power or staffing. A giving checkbook was a common theme w/ Clinton, not to mention Obama's lift for law enforcement is a in my book. Damn Mccain has not yet to give a nod to the law enforcement community.

You mean you never had to worry as much with a Republican Congress, unlike since the Democrats regained control?

There's a lot more involved than just who the President is.

Re: BOP funds

It's easy to forget that the budget originates in the House of Representatives... And that Congress can override a presidential veto simply by doing so with a 2/3 majority in each house of Congress.

It's something that most Congress Critters wish that we would forget about...

The Republicans lost Congress in '06, by following Bush like lapdogs. Fixing the economy, war in Iraq, etc. was committed under a Bush led administration, which includes a Bush led Senate and Congress.
There's no Congress with a year and a half that can fix this mess.

Re: BOP funds

Congress can change the federal budget as it wishes every year.
