The BOP standard is "Risk Aversion and the Absence of Moral Courage."

There is also a huge number of folks who suffer from blind obdience. No true input to the boss and no valid decisons made for those working in the trenches.

Such true statements and they carry on so much about having integrity, they have Zero.

Re: Changes

Again, I concur in that this agency has no integrity, loyalty, or backbone. We lost it a while back. Caved in to political correctness on the backs of those of us in the field. It will take political change to get what we need to do the job as safely as possible.

Awwwww maybe so but I do enjoy it. Only way to get to CPT AW and Warden to make changes even if it is in my little pond. Of course we will have to see how well that plan works for me.

Re: Changes

There are still many other ways to make changes!

Make sure, the staff you work with, have the right tools in their head, use common sense, use basic correctional techniques, be aware of what is around them, tell them they need to think on their feet every day they live life.

When ever you have Choir Practice, talk about how things are going. Provide advice with out telling them how to do their job, unless they are screwing up then give them a swift kick in the butt and do tell them how to do it better!

If they are a knucklehead find out who they hang with and get them to provide the advice.

and finally, take a hold of your probationaries hands and show them the way. (notice I said show them and not lead them, cause if you show them the right way, they will follow your lead) Don't leave them on their own, cause that is one way to get anyone killed. Remember Probationary staff are your reliefs to retirement, and you should always want them, to do the job as good as you or better.

We will see the changes from the top, cause the UNION powers to be, are pushing every day.

I'm going to say, I'm not impressed with what I've seen of the "Burro" as a whole.

I really hope things will change, for the better. Lord knows it just seems to get worse everyday.

Re: Changes

Officer Rivera's death seems to be making some of the forums and people are starting to ask why BOP staffers don't have "protective gear"?

I'm urging everyone I know to write their Congress "critter", and these are people not in the "burro". As far as changes at the Pens, I haven't seen any since Officer Rivera's death, and the stupidity and lack of forethought by management is on par for the "norm". In short, they can't pour piss out of a boot.

Shooter, you know me fairly well, you know that I've never been into political correctness. But my lack of P.C. is going to cost me. I don't know if you know about my E-Mail to the officers at USP Victorville concerning the stand-up counts. Well it wound up on the Director's (Lappin) desk, I'm facing a 10 day suspention. I'm sure my "Open Letter to the Director" I put in the newspapers about Officer Rivera's death didn't help.

I don't think that any change will come anytime soon (at least before I retire). I've seen the BOP change for the worst in the past almost 29 years. I don't really think any kind of pressure, political or otherwise will make them change. I support the effort to make the changes, I've made my feeling clear, even to the Director. But when you have POG's in charge NOTHING will be changed.

Re: Changes

Of course I know about your e-mail Gunny, and I support everything you said in it. Problem is, some lay down union pogue opted to send it to the RD and Director. Now, WTF (wednesday, thursday, friday) turns into a conduct issue because the director got his feelings hurt as did all the LAYDOWNS who took offense to it. By the way, being offended is a self inflicted wound such as being scared or intimidated.

Regardless, I did everything in my power to stop the little OIA crap, but got called by PEEPS in da region and central offices who were offended that I had already handled it thru reprimand as I told them. They however didn't see that as handled and opened the investigation.

Long story short here to answer the other part..... I can only make the changes in my small piece of this Burro world.... and you know where that is. Kinda makes you wish for a free fire zone..... just for a few to get those changes thru.

I too have done some days on the beach this year..... 3 to be exact. And I'll tell you about that face to face.

By the way.... thanks for the coffee this morning. I must extend a hand to you and say I take responsibility for your destroyed bookcase. Can't take Chuy anywhere.

Hell don't worry about that, I was going to throw it out. Him busting through the top of that thing was the most fun I had all month!

I should know sometime this week how much beach time I'm going to get. But like I told the boss; I said what had to be said, I made my point, and things got took care of. My service to the country will be over soon, and their's people out there who keep screwing around, I don't have the time nor the inclination to be PC. I'll take what ever punshment is deemed necessary, without complaint.
