I dont think anyone would notice if we wear one. I know some officers that use to wear vests. You hardly know they are wearing it.

I know NYC Corrections use them.

Where does it say that it is against the rules? I have searched policy and can not find it.

A guy I work with took it as far as making them write him a memo that clearly states he can not wear a stab vest. In addition, i have seen it posted on staff feedback on the regional website.

I looked at sally port. A mdc said you could and that if you had one it would be a protective device like a pair of search gloves. Another FCI said it was not approved by the BOP, and there was research going on.

Very good point. However, ask anyone in management and they will make it clear.

If we get stabbed can our families sue because they would not allow us to protect ourselves? Are they worried that the inmates will be intimidated if they think they can't puncture our livers easily enough? Who makes the $hit up? Do they really love the inmates or just dislike us that much? I really can't figure it out?!?!?!

I think it is a bit of both. The guy i know that made them put it in writing is keeping that for that very reason. He has told his wife at any time he is killed behind the wall due to being stabbed that paper goes to a lawyer immediately.
