MRSA (Staph) What does your joint do to prevent it?

I am at Talladega, we have a number of inmates with staph (MRSA) it seems to go largely ignored. We have even had staff to come down with it as well as members of their families.

To date, we have been issued one small sample size hand sanitizer and there are a few restrooms with an antibacterial liquid soap.

Over all nothing is actually being done to stop this or control this problem.

How is it being addressed in your facility??

Here they treat it with the Official BOP Response: "You didn't get that at work, you got it off a shopping cart at Wal Mart. And it's your fault anyway, because we tell you to wash your hands every 30 seconds!"

At Leavenworth we have hand sanitizer everywhere. But it's still epedemic among the thugs. The BOP is simply too poor to buy enough chemicals for the thugs to clean the showers with, and too stupid to raise the tatooing offense from a 400 to a 200 series shot.

Well, MO is trying a new product called biovex. Anyone heard of it? Supposed to be better than bleach.

I guess with summer season (lots of sweaty people touching lots of sweaty things) and the rampant tattooing, we will see.

They tell us to wash our hands every yr during ART. If we want hand sanitizer we have to buy it ourself.

Never heard of it. But I'm sure it costs money, so the BOP isn't interested. The BOP doesn't mind spending $75,000 treating a thug's MRSA because there's no option not to. But it refuses to spend the $7.50 necessary to prevent it in the first place because that is an optional expense. The BOP doesn't trust anyone with options...

That kind of fits with the BOP way of thinking. Reactive instead of proactive.

The Medical Center hear treats tries to treat it. Notice I said "tries". They give us Wex-Cide to clean with. Supposed to kill anything. BOP way ignore it till they have no choice but to deal with it.

Bop guys, I have an eye opener...

It will make you shake your head...

Did you know the Federal Bureau of Prisons wrote the book on MRSA and how it is to be delt with in a PRISON setting. The military, most states and many county and city jails, the CDC and many international systems use us as THEIR source to deal with MRSA!!

Here is the link to the .PDF on MRSA by the good ole BOP...
