Re: MRSA (Staph) What does your joint do to prevent it?

We had a recent bout with a Norovirus epidemic at Terre Haute. We locked down the entire complex, quarantined the outbreak, bleached down everything that wouldn't move, and stayed locked down for over a week to prevent any spreading of the virus. The only thing we're going to do in the future is prevent staff from traveling from the Camp, FCI and USP to eliminate the possibility of cross contaminating the other joints (with staff as the carrier). Worked very well...

We use hand sanitizer as well and have negative pressure rooms available at the USP. We can also quarantine as many inmates as we need in one cellhouse, and more if it gets bigger.

They don't have to do anything to keep us from getting it. Acoording to them you can only get it at home, just like TB. They will tell you that you were exposed because you had an inmate on the bus with you for 8 hours that has active TB but that you didn't get it from him. You must have gotten exposed at the mall or in an elevator.

Experts: Drug-resistant staph deaths may surpass AIDS toll - CNN.com

The article is on HA MRSA (Hospital Acquired)

But it does give some sobering stats...

We work in an environment where this stuff breeds, and little is done to stop it...
