Should BOP front lobby Officers be armed.
When I used to work for the S.O. any Deputy that worked our front lobby at the Jail was armed because those Deputies had direct contact with the Public.
Our front lobby Officers deal with the public as well am I to far off thinking that the front lobby Officers should be armed as well for saftey reasons any nutso can just walk right in off the street. |

I agree. All officers outside the secured area should be armed

Absolutely. So should Control Center and the Rear Gate.

Re: Should BOP front lobby Officers be armed.
No...
...and yes. Yes. The front lobby officer is the one that must stop people from attempting to bring weapons into the institution. If somebody decided to enter the prison by force, and shoot up everybody in the Admin building, there is no deterent other than the GS-5 (Usually female wannabe unit secretary type :0)) working the Front Lobby to stop them. Hypothetically a gunman could take out the entire Admin building before anybody could respond. No.......... the front lobby officers job brings them into contact with civilians and inmates who cant be around our guns. There is no way they could do their job while armed. They wouldnt be allowed around people. Our front lobby officers baby sit campers all day, or screen visitors. Having guns at the front entrance would scare them. OH MY. Reallistically, depending on how your Front Lobby/Admin building is setup, there is nothing stopping an officer, or anybody else from shooting up the Front Lobby, or just barging into the Admin Building and causing chaos. The Front Lobby officers job would have to be changed...the BOP aint gonna do that.
