CBS) NEW YORK An off-duty New York state corrections officer shot and killed a 36-year-old man during what police said Tuesday was a traffic dispute at an intersection in Queens on Tuesday night.

The officer, Emilio Maldonado, 29, was stopped just after 7:08 p.m at a traffic intersection at 94th Street and Ditmars Boulevard, his wife and baby in the back seat of his car.

I am a HUGE advocate for Concealed Carry. I truly hope that I would have acted and performed the same way as this brave officer.

Bravo Emilo!

THIS is the exact reason why Officers, both LE and Corrections should carry off-duty.

I applaud the corrections officer and hope he and his family are doing well. I also have no sympathy for the P.O.S. that is now burning in hell. Sorry if it sounds harsh but if someone's attacking me and I hear "Shoot the cop, shoot the cop", I'm opening fire and emptying the clip.

In the communist state of Maryland we are on our own to obtain a permit...

They trust weapons qualified officers to carry on duty... but not off duty....

Don't feel bad. Florida's in the same boat. CO's can't carry and aren't covered by HR 218 yet. Gotta have the CCW permit, which fortunately, I have.

The dead ex-inmate......yes, I said ex-inmate!! Did a previous bid in NYS earlier, and I would not doubt if he was on Parole, when he was gunned down!!! One less mistake his mother has to deal with, huh!!! LOL....good shooting Tex!!

Our CCW comes with the job, but Arizona is an open carry state anyway. It was weird the first time I saw some dude walking down the sidewalk with a gun on his hip and no badge.

Despite that though, I carry concealed more often than no, my Springfield XD .40 Sub-Compact serves me well.

I can't believe that the poor misunderstood thug was shot by the CO. He probably just wanted directions to hell. I guess he got them.
