United States Penitentiary Atwater meeting stirs outcry
Two community leaders were blocked from attending a session held at the facility.

ATWATER -- Two community leaders who've led the charge against failed safety policies at U.S. Penitentiary Atwater say they were barred from a community meeting at the prison Wednesday and threatened with arrest in retaliation for speaking out.

The general community thought we were all paranoid and BOP haters. Guess this will give them something to think about. This may be the USA, but the BOP has their own dictatorship going. Their way or the highway. No questions, not ever.

This will NOT look good for the Atwater Exec staff or the BOP. Especially when these individuals replied to the RSVP's they were sent!!!

This is one of those circumstances where hindsight is 20/20 and I bet the warden wishes he could take back the denial.

I can see the manure hitting the air circulation device now!!!

I wonder if Warden Smith and his Exec Asst. checked/cleared this with the Regional or Central Offices before making this decision?

You know they were thinking, "This is MY joint, I am NOT gona let these dudes on to ask me if I am doing my job! Lets deny the visit and treat these community leaders like inmates"! Now, as usual they will have to scramble to avoid more backlash than if they had handled things honestly in the first place!
