WARREN, Maine (AP) — The governor's office says two people have been taken hostage by a prisoner with a knife at the Maine State Prison in Warren.
Spokesman David Farmer says the standoff began Monday afternoon and that a negotiating team has made "limited contact" with the prisoner.
Farmer did not identify the prisoner or the hostages. He also didn't say if the hostages were other inmates or prison staff.
Warren is 58 miles northeast of Portland.

i'm a MSP CO. all i heard was that the inmate took 2 hostages. he had a homemade shank. i called to see if they needed staff in. hey said al was secure, and that they where trying to negotiate with them. it was 1430. right at shift change. so i've been watching the news. nothing new to report. i will try calling the prison to see if anything is going on. i'm not scheduled to go back to work till wdnesday. i hop everything turns out alright. i know the state police are there. more info when i get it

The latest I found (less than a half hour ago) is that it's one inmate hostage taker, one staff hostage and one inmate hostage. The bad guy is wielding a knife and negotiations are ongoing. It's not known if the inmate "hostage" is part of the game or not.
