================================================== =======
An Allen man is in jail accused of attempted murder of state trooper Friday morning after a high-speed pursuit that covered more than 50 miles and three counties.
Driving a silver Mazda CX, Scott P. Melton, 30, was spotted driving on the wrong side of Highway 114 near Lake Bridgeport when Runaway Bay Police Patrolwoman Susan H. Hoelscher pulled behind him. Melton didn’t slow but sped west with Hoelscher behind him.
Leaving Wise County, Melton drove into Jack County. Once inside the city limits, Jacksboro Police Department Chief Frank Mooney said Melton made a U-turn on South Main Street, near Fort Richardson, appeared to change his mind, flipped another U-turn and headed north.

“Speeds were as high as 60 miles per hour through downtown Jacksboro,” Mooney said.
Melton continued west on Highway 114 with Jack County Sheriff’s Office deputies joining Hoelscher. JCSO Investigator Melvin Mayo radioed the chase reached speeds of 80 mph.
Meanwhile on the same road, near Jean, Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Robert Dial had just thrown a spike strip across the highway designed to shred Melton’s tires. However, Melton saw the trap and drove off the highway and toward Dial.
“I was behind him (Melton) when he tried to run over Robert Dial,” Mayo said. “Robert had just deployed the spikes when he looked up to see him on top of him and jumped out of the way.”
Mayo radioed constant warnings to officers waiting a head of Melton which included employees from the Young County Sheriff’s Office, Olney Police, DPS, Archer County Sheriff’s Office and Texas Rangers.

Just east of Olney, officers threw out another spike strip. As he came over a hill, Melton narrowly missed Graham United Supermarkets Assistant Manager John Love who was riding his motorcycle east on Highway 114.
“He came over the hill in his SUV, lost control, and I laid my bike over in the bar ditch,” Love said. “I thought he was going to hit me.”
Melton swerved and plowed into the south bar ditch. But he was not through as he tried to drive his vehicle forward and through the barbed wire fence. Mayo and Hoelscher arrived, and the woman shot the Mazda’s left front car tire.
Mayo broke out the driver’s side door window with his pistol and grabbed Melton’s Arm.
Hoelscher ran to the other side, broke the passenger window, entered the vehicle and ordered Melton to cease and desist. Melton ignored both officers and kept trying to drive forward.
Hoelscher then used a taser gun to disable Melton, and he was taken into custody. He was handcuffed and transferred to the county jail.
Mayo and Hoelscher cut themselves on the broken glass of Melton’s vehicle, but no one was seriously injured.
Texas Ranger Dwayne Williams said Melton is expected to be charged with resisting arrest and attempted murder of a public servant.
A DPS accident investigation team has been called to Olney to re-enact the scene.

I've driven in and around that area many times. You can really get a lot of people hurt doing high speeds through there. It's a really congested, thickly settled area. Not only that, but there are many pedestrains on the surface streets there. They should take that into account when they sentence this douche!

Glad to see that another fool is off the streets for a little while. Better him than one of us.
