The key to promoting up is to be seen as a hard worker who knows policy and how to handle inmates without having to always call on rank to take care of your problems. It also helps to gain experience in other areas other than just AD-SEG. If I were you after a year of working AD-SEG I would transfer to the building in order to learn how GP is run and give yourself a better chance on the sergeants board. Good luck !!!

Very interesting and helpful info.Congrats on your experience.I tested on Sept.22nd.Had the highest score and a great interview.As of today I'm still playing the waiting game.I mailed my letter on friday requesting the status of my application.What did your last few days of the academy consist of?

for sergeant is there a certain amount of time to waite? cause here in Maryland you have to have 3 years in. but when i was in Maine as long as you had 2 yrs of any type of correctional experience you where good to go.

i have one question. you said when you graduated from the academy you were a CO3. on the website it says 9 months to be lv.3. did i read this right cuz if so thats great! i go to training jan 14th.

wow i should've went to Texas....in MD it don't matter how much experience u have...u start out at the bottom...some guy with one year in tries to give me sh**...but i unleash my special style of charm and then they know i'm not that person to be pi**ed with...lol

I have military so they start Prior service at COIII, I start at Huntsville Acadmey on 4Feb and then go to Furgeson, I hear it's not so great,But I'm sure there are good and Bad about all units..Good Luck.
