Congrats Floppy! Do well and understand you are going into a dysfunctional setting. Observe more than you talk. Then, start asking questions from people who teach you things by policy. As a new employee, try not to develop any bad habits. If you have prior state experience, store it in your memory bank. No one cares what you use to do in the state; otherwise, you would have stayed there oppose to entering the Bureau. I was a former state employee for 7 years, 2 as a officer and 5 as a supervisor. It means nothing to your peers. It is a brand new beginning for you. Get into the TSP very quickly and you have a chance to be a millionaire upon your retirement. Good luck to you. Observe, observe, observe and have plenty of fun at Glynco!

Re: I'm Hired!

Ok, I'm going to give you some advice on McCreary. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Go to your 8s for these questions first. If there isn't an 8 around, check with some of the 7s that are around and have some experience. Don't call the LT first, he is busy, he doesn't have time to answer questions about what you can and cant give the inmate. The Officer in the unit next to you will most times be an experienced Officer, because they don't like to put 2 new guys in a unit together. Do not hesitate to call them to ask a question. You will figure out pretty quick which officers will help you and which ones just don't care. I'm sure that we will meet eventually, I am willing to help anyone that is willing to try. Just listen and learn and you will be fine. If you see something that needs done, do it. We have had a huge problem lately with some new guys wanting to just come in and lay down, that will get you a bad name quick. Follow policy and you will be fine. if an inmate asks you for something and you have any doubts. Say no, you can always check on it and go back and give it to them if they have it coming. the other way around can cause you some headaches.
As said before get your TSP started right away...Do the best you can do...Remain dedicated to your fellow officer...And stay safe, myself and many others like to see everyone go home every shift.
Thats all I can offer at this time. Just do the best you can.
AND WELCOME TO THE TEAM

Didnt mean anything by that Taco, if you've ever worked for a big company before, just remember to always listen, always leave your personal life, kids, spouse, neighborhood, etc.
strictly confidential. Dont get in a hurry, and dont let anything or anyone stress you out. Good luck!
