Re: Would you like to swap knowledge with a London Officer?

In Europe/the UK we have prisonofficer.org.uk and had prisonofficer.com for a while. When I come home from the pub pissed late at night and just Google "prison officer" this American site comes up and it really is sooo much better and I'm really liking it, so I wanna get involved.

Anyway, the thing that suprises me is that your group is called a "Prison Officer" group, when I've always known that you guys are called "Corrections Officers"... As a UK Prison Officer that's how I found it.

I've submitted all I can to become verified and I'm just waiting for the phone call or e-mail. I understand people being guarded with new members like me - I was on our UK site, so I'll be basic untill I am certified.

But just for now (as this was a major question on the UK site), how long do you have to wait to get in? Over here at the moment it seems to be at least a year or 18 months.

It varries on the department/institution/system.
I have seen people wait anywhere from 6 months (very rare) to over 2 yrs for all to workout. In Iowa its really up to when a person applies. If your lucky it might go fast................Average now in the Iowa system is probably about 8-10 months .....longer at the institution where I work for some reason

That's quite fast Iowa, but remember over here we only have the one Service (HMP) and it's national throughout England and Wales - Scotland and Northern Ireland have their own prison service's. I suppose we are pretty similar to the BOP in the US really but more like a Walt Disney version ha ha ha

Were they Air Force or Navy? (our Army and Marines don't have them). As an ex member of Her Majesty's Royal Air Force - I will complain!

But that was at least 14 years ago so I never saw one. We only had Puma's and Chinooks in those days of Bosnia and Northern Ireland, and the 1st Gulf War of course where I made many an American friend.

You must have a great suntan. Are you fulltime or part time? What is your connection to Corrections/Prisons? Or are you just looking in?
