Re: Week One
When i got out of the military and came to Marion my platoon sgt(who had a bunch of friends at usp lvnwrth) told me to keep my mouth shut and watch everything the old hacks do, it was the best advice he couldve given for coming to marion.

We don't usually have to wait a year but 3-4 months in not at all unusual, it all depends on when a person is hired, when the next academy class is, and what class is full. Over the years I have found that I much perfer giving the new staff some training at the institution THEN sending them to the academy. A couple weeks of orientation then a month of "here is the institution what what we do and do what you are told" gives the new guys/gals an idea of what the instructors at the academy are talking about. We are going to "re train" them after they get back from the academy anyway.

Re: Week One
My wife was a CO. All I can say, when you get your first shooter...be firm. Throw the book at em'. You will get the inevitable "it was an accident, I didnt know it fell out" and "I never did that before and if you write me up, I will get sent to the Pen"...a lot rides on how you handle it, and believe me, every perv will know what you did or did not do.
