I had a rookie in the center tower here with me one day, and he picked up a flashbang, and asked, "if I pull this what will happen". He almost pulled it, and I almost threw him out the window. Then I kicked him out and told him to go ask the Lt for a ID10T form. cause he needed it!

You never hears that one? It was pretty common in the Army.

I had a new officer ask me today. " Have you worked this wing before?" I said " yes" they said " so who's good to watch down there?" I gave them my most sympathetic look and said, " I always watch the ones wearing state gray." Oddly enough I didn't have to talk to that officer the rest of the day.

Re: What's the funniest thing a rookie has asked you?

In Missouri the Unit Manager falls in the chain of command for custody "somewhere." UM oversees all custody in the unit and can give orders (I rarely do, I have good staff). Anyhow, another UM told an officer working in her unit that day to do something. He refused. She said, "Excuse me?" (Being a female UM you can bet that she is not taking this well) He said, "My Sgt didn't tell me to do that." She attempted to explain the chain of command and he again told her that his Sgt didn't tell him to do that.

She called the shift commander. She put CO X on the phone. He told the Captain, "My Sgt. didn't tell me to do that."

Finally, the Sgt was called in to explain the chain of command and while he does report directly to her, he MUST follow directives given by the UM.

It really cracks me up to picture him telling the UM, "My Sgt. didn't tell me to do that."

(Oh and he had been assigned to the unit that day)
