Well, as a FNG in DE, we have it even worse. Yes, the towers have both Mini 14s and shotguns, but they are NOT allowed to fire inside the wire! So having them up there if something breaks out in the yard is only so they can notify somebody if I get my head knocked in before I can get to my radio....

Re: pat downs

This is a touchy one for me. I work in a female prison. As a male officer I am not allowed to perform pat searches unless it is an emergency situation and Im authorized by the shift commander. The issue is this we have alot more male officers than female and there is a small amount of searches that happen. If the female officers are allowed to search the males why cant a male search a female?

Re: pat downs

that is a good question. why are female officers allowed to pat down and strip search male prisoners? but male officers can only pat down and strip search females ONLY if an emergency. what defines an emergency. when i went to academy, they said that females are more likely to have been psychologically harmed by a male who used sex as a weapon. but it still makes me feel like i am not competent to do my job in a professional and dignified manor. this does not mean i want to search or pat down females, i can definatly see where it can lead to big problems, but i hate having to wait for a dispatcher or our 1 female deputy to change them out so that i can finish the booking process and get on with everything else i have to do.

Reason number 25689 why I will never, never, never again work with either female or juvenile prisoners

Yea, been there, done that, figured a way out of doing it again!
