It is 5 rounds in a 20 round mag, the reason I believe is so that people don't spray and pray instead of aiming.

Re: pat downs

Its been years since my academy days and I don't remember being shown the right way of patting down an inmate. I learned from an experienced officer. He said "its one of those learn as you go things". I believe they are showing the proper way to do it in the academy now, that's what I heard anyway. By the way...how's it going on the "West Side" Skull?!?!?!

Re: pat downs

Patrol pats down detainees that are brought in. Those pat-downs consist of barely grazing the sides, and basically fluffing the pant legs. The detainees are then put into a transfer cell to be patted down by our staff before being brought into booking.

It's unnerving to go into that transfer cell knowing that any weapons smaller than a cannon are still on the person. I believe that if a person complains of being violated, the pat-down was done correctly.

You know I have always believed that pain and embarassment is a very valuable training tool for someone who needs to come out of the fog and into reality. That may be exactly what she needs. To be bitch slapped by a convict. I am sure time an opportunity will meet for her. Then she will have to decide "I don't need this job!" or "Wow I won't do that **** any more!" One or the other will make you and your facility benefit.

This is a good subject for me- being a new female officer... I was just talking with my FTO about it tonight... everyone does things their own way around here so I've been told 3 different "proper" ways to pat someone down. The most valuable tool for me has been watching everyone do the pat downs over and over and then patting down a person who has been through the routine before so it's not as nerve-wracking. Also- the strip searches made me a little nervous at first, but I did one last week by myself and I feel a little more confident now. I'm in booking tonight so we should have some action being Saturday AND 4th of July weekend.... looking forward to the mayhem...

I'd say of it hits the fan, have a few fifteen round mags loaded, if you have to lay down fire, shoot five rounds, pause, shoot five more, pause...get the idea? LOL

That's how I learned, Watch everyone and try it their way, eventually you will find your own way you are comfortable with. The important thing is that when you are done, you are confident that the I/M doesn't have anything on them, if your not sure do it again. Oh and if they aren't complaining, your doing it wrong.
