IM 18... I RIDE A 1982 SPORTSTER TO HIGHSCHOOL, AND I WOULD LIKE TO ONE DAY BE A C.O. (5 FT 8 275 LBS) RELITIVLEY BIG BUT NOT HUGE

IM NOT 100% SURE THAT IT IS IN MY BLOOD BUT I DO KNOW WHAT I DO HAVE A RELITIVLEY HEAVY INTEREST IN IT AND OR TRUCKING

I JOINED THIS SITE TO GET THE GENERAL IDEA TO SEE WHAT I NEED TO HAVE OR GAIN TO BECOME A CO

I HAVE LITTLE INFO ABOUT THE "CAREER" SO IM GUESSING BY THE LOOKS OF THIS FOURM THIS WIL BE THE BEST I CAN GET ON THE WEB

If you would like to become a correctional officer, the only important questions are the ones you need to ask yourself.

1. Since you are 18, do you possess a level of maturity that is high enough to work around inmates convicted of numerous crimes?

2. Can you show consistency to all inmates and remain fair no matter what behavior an inmate presents?

There are more questions but I am at work and short on time. The job is very rewarding and equally stressful. What state do you live in? Most states have recruitment events for their Department of Corrections. Try to find one if you can.

IM HERE IN ARIZONA .... I HAVE NO WORRYS ABOUT TREATING ALL THE INMATESOR "OFFENDERS" EQUALLY... IVE RED SOME YESTERDAY WHEN I WAS IN CLASS AND IVE SEEN SOME OF THE COMMENTS THAT THE NEWBIES HAVE HAD FOR THE VETS.. (THE WAY INMATES ACT ECT...)

I ALSO BELIEVE I HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO BE A CO... BEING I TRULEY DONT LET COMMENTS AFFECT ME.... IM NOT REALLY A BOOK SMART GUY... JUST LOTS OF COMMON SENCE

Its good to be somewhat book smart so you know what policy is saying. Then again, anything that is common sence is usually a violation of policy.

You need to be 21 years old for the Bureau of Prisons. You must also have either military, sales, or management experience for at least 2 years. You must also have fair credit (no current delinquencies, tax liens, etc) and no felonies.

Besides those basic quals, you need to have a certain level of maturity...if you don't, you will get chewed up and spit out by the inmates. I don't know too many 21 year olds who possess all of the above listed qualities...although it does happen from time-to-time.
