This was the day we shipped out of Ft. Benning, GA.

I'm sure glad I wasn't a baggage handler!

The large building behind me is the Ministry of Interior, or more commonly known as MOI. If you use Google Earth you can type in Ministry of Interior, Baghdad, Iraq and it can be plainly seen from above.

LDM - you stay safe over there. A reporter from the Merced Sun Star, Corinne Reilly, is over there now in Baghdad. If you run across her, make sure you buy her a beer. She's the reporter that broke the "real" story of what's happening in our Federal Prisons and the working conditions in which our Correctional Officers endure.

LDM - Thanks for serving ... stay safe !

I'm here as a private contractor working at the National Academy where they train the Iraqi Correctional Officers. We call them ICO's.

They would ever LET us talk to the media (not that I want to) and we have had CNN, BBC and a bunch of other media types here touring the prisons. We step way to the back and let the military types do their thing. It's safer that way, eh?

Tough job but SOMEBODY has to do it...AND it really is challenging in so many ways.

BTW, Ramadan started TODAY and I mean the REAL Muslim Ramadan, not that stuff some of the inmates try to pull in our prisons when they feel like they want to become a muslim.

OK, off my soapbox now.

Shorti,

Thanks. We are actually in a pretty safe area. Of course there is always the danger of mortars and rockets, but they haven't had that here in many months.

When I get the chance to get some prison pictures I will post them. We cannot take pictures of the detainees/inmates though.

Thanks for holding the fort down and keep the light on for me.
