I thought this would be a interesting thread to be able to see how our CO forefathers did their jobs way back....

But they have canes. That is a better imapact weapon than a 3-cell maglite. The officer's in the first photo look very professional.

That was back when the officers had revolvers on them while workin.... you have to wonder how long it took before the bosses relized how bad idea that was...

I wonder when the decision was made to pull weapons from CO's. I also wonder who was first and who was the last department to do it.

You can't judge history by today's standards. Prisons and convicts were different back then. Pistols may not be a good idea these days, but something other than keys and my devilish good looks would be nice.

I would guess that they were institution specific. Wardens had a lot of latitude back then.

I wonder if they used to have to do inspections before shifts??? Where the Capt. or whomever would check their uniforms and shoes like in the Military etc.
I know a lot of Police Departments still do that, not all of them but a lot of them.
Gosh, if they did that now, there would be soooo many people sent home!!! LOL!
