NIJ Standards
Review the following address for NIJ Standards in regards to Stab Resistant Vests. You will see they have updated it since 2000, and that the Bureau of Prisons didn't asist them with anything, or give them any insite.

Why would they, we don't use vests.
However, had they asked about confrontational avoidance or IPC, they would have had volumes of information to share and spread around. Just sayin...

I spoke with turtleskin several weeks ago and the vest that they are going to produce is supposed to be NIJ certified, and they will be both puncher and sharpened edge cut resistant. Turtleskin stated that they are going to try and get bop employees a discount... so they should be around $850 or so. They are going to offer them to USP Atwater first, and then the rest of the USP later.

My view is that the BOP heads have sucessfully diverted virtually all of the attention away from the real issue....WE CAN"T STOP ATTACKERS, ours or the inmates!
Don't get me wrong, I'm for the vests, but this is like giving a firefighter a nomex suit and no fire hose. The loss of our brother is tragic, and a vest may have delayed the inevitable, but pepper spray would have them dipped in liquid hell and cuffed. Don't forget that the vest gives you absolutely no ability to STOP THE ATTACK. We need both, and honestly I'd sure rather have OC first, it gives us distance and the ability to stop one or more aggressors for half an hour. Keep focused |
