It does suck. Therefore that is one of the reasons I am actively looking to transfer. I have a problem with a town that is 30 yrs behind the times, and the fact that we have to pay outrageous taxes here, and they can tell me what I can and cant drink.

Oh they sound a little more than 30 years behind. Someone may need to remind them prohibition ended and it wasn't yesterday, either.

Well, I already have an assignment of sorts. lol

I was told that I have to take an undergraduate course as a prerequisite to the Masters (and yes, CJ of course although I am seriously considering Public Administration as a 2nd major to enhance my chances of promotion/opportunities).

So my current project is that I have to write an appeal to the Dean and explain how my training and experience have taught me what is covered in the course. Specifically the course deals with constitutional rights. 4th, 5th, 8th, and 14th amendments. Now, the only problem I am having at the moment is that in corrections, those rights are fairly unused/unhonored! Of course, offenders like to plead the 5th, but do we really care what their statement is anyway? I am reviewing the course syllabus and trying to fit my training hours and experience to get the appeal through.

Any suggestions here?

So far I have my training records and plan to research the "syllabus" for the classes for the following:
Profession of Corrections
Constitutional Law in Corrections
Senate Bill 5 (petitioning for early release after serving 120 days)
Staff Liability Issues
Courtroom Preparation and Testimony
Supervisory Liability

Ok, I guess what I meant to say above is that the offenders have lost certain rights and the ones covered in these amendments are them. (Except maybe the 8th -excessive bail)

Now, maybe Gunner will sober up from that beer and help out too! rofl

That sounds like an interesting little project.

I'll see what kind of training on the Bill of Rights and prisoners I can dig up so that you can experience it and write about it.

Here's a start. All of the footnotes are linked to the cases.

FindLaw: U.S. Constitution: Fourteenth Amendment: Annotations pg. 17 of 40

But Algrebra is NOT worthless. You actually use it all the time (at least basic algebra). Some of that stuff, well, yeah, fairly worthless.

Research methods in CJ? Oh well, that sounds like TOOOOOOOOOO much fun! lol

AWESOME!!!!! The hardest part I believe will be tying DOC training to the course syllabus.

But if it gets me out of a class it will be worth it. Since it is a $600 class, I can't really afford to take it. The other classes will be quite enough.

Oh, and you will love this! Last night I was with a group of friends. Now between this group of ten adults, none of us to definitively say what any of the amendments were.

Except: #2 right to arm bears (yes, one of these guys is a nut)
#5 I guess cause we all watch law and order
and the resident genius who said, "the 6th is after the 5th but after that you are on your own. I'm not holding your hand through all of this."

I even asked a high school kid that was there and decided that our education systems sucks and is a waste of our tax dollars. One of the adults said it must have sucked and been a waste of our parents' tax dollars as well. I said, "But that was 20 years ago. It makes sense that WE would forget."

Oh and the 7th is after the 6th. See I can do this on my own!
