Re: PA retirement

Thanks for that. That doesn't seem bad at all. Do you know what % it is? Did you work in PA?

I see you're in Maine now. My uncle live in Gouldsboro, I think it's called. I went up there in Jan. of 2002. Really nice. We went to Jordan Pond, Mt. Desert Island, and a bunch of other places, but I can't remember all of them. Oh, yeah, we went to the most eastern part of the U.S. there.

What's the pay like after 20 or so years? I know they are starting guys at around $30,000 at Graterford. Not sure how the raises go.

Thanks for the info.

Re: PA retirement

I had no intentions on moving to Maine. I'll be happy just visiting it every once in a while. Maine was the the most beautiful place I went to until I went to Yellowstone park in Wyoming, (not including major cities).

Re: PA retirement

PA DOC has a very good retirement. You earn 2.5 percent every year. If you work 20 yrs, you get 50 percent of your highest average salary. Work 25 yrs, you get 62.5 percent and so on. Not bad at all. Especially if you have a $90,000 average, which is not unheard of at places like Graterford, where overtime is through the roof.

Someone mentioned 33 percent? PA DOC is quite a bit higher.

Anyway, I worked for PA DOC for ten yrs. I applied when I was 20/21 yrs old. When I left after 10 yrs, I was still rather young. I actually earned a pension at quite a young age. In addition to that, I started collecting my pension right away and been collecting ever since. Its not much, because I left at such a young age. But, I get it for the rest of my life and the extra money comes in handy. It pays for my car payment each month Keep in mind, I was under the 10 yr contract; Needed 10 yrs to get vested. I understand you have to do 15 yrs to get vested now..
