Pike correctional facility may house federal I.C.E. detainees

MILFORD — Pike County Commissioners enthusiastically shared at a recent meeting that they had met in Washington D.C. a month ago with high-level U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement officials about the possibility of expanding the Pike County Correctional Facility to include a proposed regional ICE facility.

Currently, the Pike County facility houses criminal aliens awaiting deportation, in addition to County inmates. Instead of the estimated 350 holding locations currently around the country, ICE is proposing to consolidate them into approximately a dozen centers, one being located in the Northeast United States.

Pike County is only one of two facilities nationwide up to current federal American Correctional Association standards, the commissioners said. Sometime after the first of the year, the commissioners will host a visit from ICE officials to tour the correctional facility in Blooming Grove.
