We had a simuliar case in Lompoc years ago. The unit counselor was working the day watch and was going around doing his census count. Found an inmate in bed who was supposed to be at work in UNICOR. He kicked the bottom of the bunk and yelled "get your ass up, your late for work!" and went on his way.
Couple of hours later UNICOR called stating they were missing an inmate, he went back up to the cell and kicked the bunk again, with the sudden realization the inmate was dead. He had been counted all night. Kinda funny note on the side, when we pulled him out of bed rigamortis had set in and to get him out of the cell we had to lean him up against the wall...he could of made the stand up count...

What's up with this? What kind of fallout came from this? Was an officer faulted....

This is the very reason I count the way I do, I count units were inmates are still laying on their beds or sitting, standing in chairs and any number of things...
I count only if: All 10 piggies are on the floor They are standing erect facing me, or at least to the point where I can see their smiling faces... Anything less won't cut it... If it is the morning shift and they wrap themselves in a cocoon... I WILL knock on the door with that Mag light until I see flesh, 3X a night if you want to play that game... IF you don't let me see you, we WILL open a cell door and I WILL put my hand on you. Simple... Counting is the easy part, it also helps insure I get my next check and they continue to come for the remaining weeks of the year... Do the job people, do the job...
