Effects of the job on spouses and family

New here and taking a look around and I don't see anything about this topic. Is there a group in Oklahoma that spouses and families of DOC employees join and present the problems that the job and training causes the families?

This doesn't make much sense to me to not have something like this. The divorce rate of CO's is so high, it's ridiculous. Most every CO that I know is divorced either because of the hours, the multiple weeks away for training, adultery happening between officers at training, or combinations of these.

Re: Effects of the job on spouses and family

haha

I hope it's not the single life for ya though. Especially not over something that has to do with DOC. It's not worth it.

First thing that needs to happen is there needs to be more training facilities other than the one in Wilburton. No one should have to leave their families for weeks at a time and go across the state.

Second thing that should happen is the training facilities need to enforce their own rules and then stop having co-ed classes. The Wilburton training facility is nothing but a breeding ground for adultery and divorce. Witnessed it myself. I often refer to the DOC as the Department of Dogs in Heat. If you aren't one of these people, don't take offense, I am part of DOC myself

Anyone caught having any kind of an affair with another officer of DOC should be fired.

I think we often find ourselves being able to relate to our fellow officers better than our spouses because they understand and our spouses don't. But we need to remember the things our spouses put up with just to be with us.

Don't get me started on the ridiculous shift changes and the effects on a family. My spouse often reminds me she did not marry a prison.

I know there is a thread on the main page for families, but I guess I wanted to know how the families of Oklahoma Officer's handle it.

Sorry to come here and start on a negative note. I think this forum is a good idea, but I also have been searching for several months for some kind of group that might be able to present some policy changes to DOC that involve all aspects of an officer's life. It can only him in his job if his family life is happy.
