Thats so wrong on so many levels!! The inmates will be laughing there ass off.

Nobody has said anything here about calling them Offender's. I still refer to them as inmates in all my reports.

Cory,
Hello today! When you call them an Offender, they want to know what they did to you!
I like what the Lt. said when calling chow the other week, He said, "Send your convicted felons to chow"!!! I am told this is coming from Oklahoma DOC. Cory, give me the run down on this, please!

It was just a memo we received a long while back. All references to the inmates in the logs, reports, etc .. they are to be called Offenders... not inmates

In Washington we use inmate, offender, and prisoner. At one time they were going to have us use resident, but that didn't go well.

Inmate!!!

I have called them inmate and they get offended. "I'm not an inmate! I is a convict!"

I don't know about you, but I haven't been around a real convict in a long long time. To me inmates are these young, loudmouth, disrespectful, Gangsta, wannabe's.

I used to work with convicts years ago. To me a convict is someone who has been in the system for a fair part of their lives. They know the rules and follow them. This is not to say he won't screw you in the butt if he has a chance. But he knows your job and what you have to do and he abides by it.

Away from you is a different ball game.

Most convicts HATE inmates. And have been known to take one out behind the wood shed for a discussion on how things really run.

Rarely do you hear a real convict complain and moan about things. As long as he has what he has coming, he is happy. If you have to take him out to the wood shed you won't hear about it a few minutes later, you MAY want to keep your eye on him but most cases he won't snitch and will have a fair amount of respect for you afterwords. An inmate... He will make a bee line to tell...

I miss the old days.

Inmate, Thug, Convict, Paycheck, It is all the same...

Offenders... Not hardly...

Offenders would be Odamma and Biden...

Now THAT is offensive!!

Ohhhhh I can see I am going to be so politically incorreect and probably in front of the CPT or wardens desk. They are inmates or convicts like you all said. I thinkI have an out though. But sir/ma'am they were inmates when I left on active duty 4 years ago? When did they become a client and if they are, THEY OWE ME MONEY!!!!! I do not work for free!!!! hmmm think that will work?........probably not,I will just keep getting my hand slapped for mispronunciation of who they truly are.

I have to agree with you Area51 on the above. Convits know their place and will rarely step over that line.... Inmates on the other hand want to try to prove something to everyone and will cross and recross that line as many time as they can. They are nothing but whiney "young, loudmouth, disrespectful, Gangsta, wannabe's."
