Hi just wanted to know if any of the members here are familiar with either the ODOC or the ODYS systems in Ohio just curious about hiring practices and what the Departments are like to work for. I am in the process now for a JCO position will know more after testing this month I have applied to the DOC as well.

Re: Ohio Doc

I don't recall seeing anybody from Ohio DOC here--yet. This is still a new forum, and we are adding people from around the nation each day.

If there are no Ohio DOC folks here yet, hopefully there will be soon. Better yet, hopefully you get the job you are looking for and you can tell your new coworkers all about this place.

Re: Ohio Doc

I will definetly do that I have tons of friends in the law enforcement community and a few in corrections I found this site on officer.com and am happy to see a forum for corrections officers. I have an uncle in the DOC not too sure he would want to post here he from my understanding likes to leave work there and not bring it home hes an old hand.

I work as a nurse in some of the facilities with the Ohio DRC. I can give you some ideas as to what a few of them are like as to working in them.

Re: Ohio Doc

I have only worked in the juvenile parts of the county jails in Hamilton and Warren counties and at Madison Correctional. The rest have been with the adults.

Re: Ohio Doc

DYS in Ohio I am sorry to inform is off the hook. Everyone to worried about lawsuits due to the fact their juvies. DRC on the other hand is about the same more worried about the comfort of the inmates, and not as worried about security issues. I have buddies from my Marine Corps days at various DOC's throughtout the country that I still talk to, and it seems to be this way just about everywhere. Welcome to corrections.

Re: Ohio Doc

I'd love to work at the Corrections Medical Center. Only 80, most cadre, and I can be a nurse. I have a BA in the Legal field, but deep down I'm a nurse and I would like to be in a place where I can be one.

You can go to the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections website and it will answer all of your questions.
I worked at RCI in Chillicothe for 11.5 years before leaving to work in Iraq as an International Correctional Advisor/Trainer for the USDOJ ICITAP program.
Good Luck!

Re: Ohio Doc

I finally got the position at Corrections Medical Center that I wanted. It's one big hospital. I can put to work my Criminal Justice Bachelors and my Nursing degrees. Nice to know all that money I spent on education didn't go to waste.
