Lincoln Correctional Center In Lockdown, Four Hurt | WOWT.COM
Staff injured, one seriously

The Lincoln Correctional Center was placed on lockdown Saturday morning after four staff members were injured, one seriously, in an undisclosed incident.

A spokesperson tells Channel 6 News a housing unit staff person was assaulted by two inmates behind bars for sex crimes. An emergency team responded to his call for assistance.

One staff member was transported by ambulance to a hospital with serious injuries. Officials aren't releasing the identify of the worker. Three others were treated for bumps, bruises and scrapes.

“We do everything we can to make sure that we keep the public safe, we do everything we can to make sure that our own staff are safe, but nevertheless it comes with the job,” says Steve King, the center’s public information officer.

Inmates were confined to their cells at about 7:45 a.m. with no visitors allowed. The prison went from a complete lockdown to a modified lockdown around 1 p.m., allowing inmates limited movement and visitors.

An investigation is underway and the prison will make further information available once that investigation is complete.

The two inmates involved will likely face charges.

Saturday, the Lincoln Correctional Center was placed on lock down after four staffers were injured, one seriously, and taken to an area hospital.

The most seriously injured staff member suffered injuries to the head including a broken orbital bone and will probably required facial surgery, said LCC spokesman Steve King. The other three LCC employees were treated and released from the hospital.

The injuries happened during an altercation with at least two inmates at the facility Saturday morning.

The Nebraska Department of Correctional services said the facility was safe and facility staff were monitoring the situation. Later in the day, the facility was placed on modified lock down which allows some of the inmate population to see visitors.

No other incidents have occurred. An investigation by the Nebraska State Patrol, the departments’ own investigators, and the facility’s intelligence staff is underway according to an LCC release.

The Lincoln Correctional Center, located in Lincoln, is a medium/maximum security facility for adult males.
