Re: Correctional officer killed at USP-Atwater
I know CPL and lots of locals were represented, plus CPOA, but a little bird told me that not a single person from AFGE (the national, not CPL) showed up.
Anyone confirm?

If that is the case, let me know. All I need is the smallest reason to stop my money right now anyway.

Re: Correctional officer killed at USP-Atwater
Thanks for the link to the cpl website. I have to admit I haven't always been the biggest Union fan, but they really stepped it up on this one - a lot more than the Bureau has even pretended to do....LOL!
I want everyone to know that it was our local 1034 that sent myself and my husband, plus two other officers, to the funeral from Louisiana to Fresno to represent FCC Pollock. I am the local representative of the Correctional Peace Officers Foundation stuff for Pollock - thanks to the union giving time during ART and IF to do the presentations. If anyone wants any info on CPOF please let me know. I can even mail you a bunch of cool free stuff for signing up. I know Kim Blakley (Federal CPOF rep) was with the family from last Saturday until at least yesterday... |

Didn't I hear that Brian Lowry was there. Isn't he now the national president. I remember when he was Forrest Ctiy's president and I was VP. WOW has time flown.

I don't know any of the national union people personally...I know the regional vp from oakdale was there. I heard Brian Lowery was there, but I don't know what he looks like so I am not sure...

We just got cameras up and running last year. Y'a know Memphis and Taledega are built the same. There are still huge blind spots where those routoundas are.....And get this. They've been having so many problems with the system, It only works about 60-70% of the time!

I was wondering when this storm was going to blow in. I can't confirm that there was no one from AFGE national at the funeral, but it is a question that surfaced Friday and has yet to be answered as far as I know. I for one will withhold judgement until I know all the facts. Last edited by stonewall; 06-29-2008 at 07:07 PM. |

Re: Correctional officer killed at USP-Atwater
I was under the impression that CPL was there representing. I would have a hard time believing that Bryan Lowry or Eric Young, SERVP, were not there. As for AFGE, I have no idea if they were there or not.

Re: Correctional officer killed at USP-Atwater
We will have to see later if AFGE national and others were there. I really do not care. What has AFGE national done for the BOP? My understanding is Brian Lowery was there. He has stepped up during this tragedy. California Correctional Peace Officers Association (CCPOA) was well represented by their members. The California Highway Patrol, considered the premier law enforcement agency for the state of California was represented. We had law enforcement from across the nation pay respect to Officer Rivera, that is good enough for me. If you can ever attend a memorial for a slain law enforcement officer, regardless of agency, I encourage you to do so. Law enforcement takes care of their own.

I second that, with the addition of Firefighters. They really did my little bother proud when he passed. It was very impressive, and my family was greatly appreciative. I was very glad to see that no less of an honor was payed to Jose. |
