Re: Correctional officer killed at USP-Atwater

Again, prayers sent. Everyone, please be aware of everything going on around you. I remember the killings in Marion years ago where one inmate slipped his cuffs and killed an officer. Later thats SAME day, another inmate did the same ranting that the score was tied again. A killing contest. Assaults on staff increased Bureau wide for weeks after that incident.

Seems the news of a downed officer energizes these scum, they get all the publicity, and it spreads like wildfire. Watch your and each others backs for copycats. Tighten up and don't let these lowest of life, scum of the human race get to you.

Harley Lapin and our congresional representatives must be held responsible. They have been running the prison system with their fingers crossed hoping this didnt happen. While we complained we silently hoped with them this day would never come. Unfortunately it has. We do need to band together and begin to get our voices and concerns heard. We need to band together and support the officers family at Atwater. We need to band together and support the staff there. Our voices will be stronger as one, more so than as an individual. God help the staff at Atwater. They are in for a very very tough time. If there is anything that we can do to help please let us know.
I think we all knew this day was coming, not that any of us wanted it to. My prayers go out also Jose's family and friends. I also pray that something will soon be done so that this will not happen again for at least another 11 years. Maybe we can remember the battle is US(all staff) against THEM(all inmates) once again. Pray with me also that Congress and Lappin give us the money and people to make us as safe as we were only a few years ago. My prayers also go out to all that remain to be safe and fight the good fight.
GOD bless you All

How about an inmate name and where they quietly shuffled him off to.

Kind of make all that bickering on the "Why I Hate Correctional Officer Week" thread, trivial now. God Bless all of you. (That includes 'Tude and Fedhack). Even though we argue and disagree.....I wish you guys the best. You all get through all of that crap and get to retirement....IT IS GREAT....Thanks fellas' (and ladies).

My prayers to the Officer, His family, all the staff at Atwater, and everyone else. We must watch each others backs. Now with that said I'm e-malling my Senators and U.S. Representative to make sure again she knows whats happing in the BOP.

I think that should be all of us!!

Let them know what happened and ask them to step up to the plate and fund us and support us.

It will be interesting to see the shuffling and spins placed on things in the upcoming weeks. And see where they place the blame.

Indeed, it will be interesting.

Area 51 you are so right. It seems that all the system is wanting is to make sure that the population is made comfortable and the institution is kept sanitary. At some point the politicians are going to have to come off the funding and give us more staff. It is amazing to me that the Teams haven't been activated but that would cause the BOP more overtime. This should be a reminder to all of us what we are working around and not to let our guard down even for a minute. My heart goes out to the family of this fallen brother and to all the co-workers of this brave Correctional Officer.

My prayers to the family of our fallen brother and the other staff who experienced this sad incident. A close friend of mine was a first responder, she is also feeling the pain.

I hope this thread doesn't change to a political bashing one. It should be in honor of one of our own who paid the ultimate price. There are other areas in this site for the normal we vs they vs him vs bargaining vs non bargaining garbage.

This "Hmm. Notice that the inmate still had a weapon in spite of the BOP's screening staff with metal detectors and x-rays.

It least the inmates can have knives..
." was not called for anywhere in this thread.
