Correction officer at Polk dies in N.Y.

Homicide detectives in New York have identified the victim of a fatal stabbing as a North Carolina correction officer.

Authorities said Tyrone A. Terry, 21, of Henderson, N.C., was found stabbed to death inside a home on Long Island after his 34-year-old girlfriend called 911 about 8:30 a.m. Sunday.

Dana Duford told officers she was awakened by the sounds of a struggle within the house, and she said someone punched her in the face before fleeing. She said she later found her boyfriend's body in another room.

The motive for the killing remains unclear. Police said they have no suspects. A call to the administration office at the Polk Correctional Institution in Butner, where Terry worked, was not immediately returned.

Officer Terry was on my shift, we are still angered by this senseless incident. We miss him dearly.

My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends, as well as the rest of the Officers out there.

They found the pos that did this and he is awaiting trial. The one memory that continues to play out over and over in my head is that the Friday morning we got off, I was talking to Officer Terry and he was telling me he was headed up north to visit his girlfriend, and seeing how happy he was that he had a chance to get up there.
