RIP Brother.

BTW This inmate was interviewed during the MSNBC Lockdown Special on Utah State Pen. He's the guy with his entire head and face tattooed with nazi crap. He was supposed to be one of the most dangerous inmates in Utah.

It will be interesting to find out some more details of this.

Like was the Officer on a single escort with this P.o.S.? From what I have read it sounds like that may have been the situation, which given the rep on this P.o.S. makes zero sense.

For some reason adminstrative types simply can not comprehend that an outside hospital is not a secure enviroment and that they need to apply additional means to ensure the safety of their staff as well as the general public.

Watch how fast the administration will shift the blame to the Officer. CYA will be in full force and effect with them.

When it's appropriate, we need, as a community of officers to talk about this. This infuriates me when these things happen. It is hard to effect change in our respective departments, but sometimes it's easier when were on the reactive end, unfortunately.

When one of our brothers falls like this, we all need to stand up and fight for changes.

Do they not teach proper hand gun retention there or what? Like, keep your firearms side away from the inmate. Little things like that. Or heres an idea, how about a contact officer that is unarmed? This is sad. God bless him.

He was probably using the same kind of **** for a rig that we in the BOP are required to use. Absolute garbage.

That's because they have not worn the uniform in years, if ever, and often forget what it's like to be first line staff. I pray that this officer does not get raked over the coals for what happened, that would be a disgrace.

RIP for the fallen officer.

In WA it's always 2 on one, one armed the other not so the armed person can keep a some distance in case the inmate gets stupid.

I just can't believe there was one guy running this escort. This guy was rated as Utah's Public Enemey #1 last year. Unreal.

Re: Utah corrections officer shot and killed

In NYS....it is the same 2-man detail. 1 Armed, 1 Unarmed. I know that when I go out on trips, I always try to be the unarmed man. I am a big/tall guy, and think it would be just that much harder for an inmate to get past me, to my armed partner. Who knows, maybe that inmate would think twice about trying to get past me....that may be another positive thing about being big/tall.

Here is the news piece....
FOXNews.com - Utah Inmate Accused of Gunning Down Officer - Local News | News Articles | National News | US News

I hope Allgier gets the death penalty. Does Utah have an active Death Penalty law?? Unlike NYS.
