Re: Lying to get in the Military

Thanks all.

I'm going to disclose everything. I don't think any of my previous medical conditions will DQ me. Even if they did, I would still disclose it.

So, should I tell my recruiter that I want everything disclosed? Or, should I just go to MEPS and disclose everything there?

Jake

If PA DOC doesn't want you, I know NC DOC will take you in a heartbeat. Come on down!

North Carolina is nice. I drive through NC a couple of years ago while on a road trip. We got stuck in Nascar traffic for a while. Also, me friends brother just moved down there and he loves it.

First off, recruiters are useless. They have a great future selling used cars because they are taught to sell anything.
that said, Just be honest about the injury. So what, you broke your wrist, can you pull a trigger? Or since you are looking at the Navy, Can you Mop a floor? sorry, swab the deck. lol I love the Navy, they did a great job transporting me around Europe, Semper Fi...
But in honesty, just tell them about your wrist, as long as you dont have any problems moving it around, then you should be all set. We are at War, the standards are lower, they take anyone they can get now.

Stiches don't mean anything to the military. The broken bone will not dq you, trust me. I disclosed everything, which was 3 broken arms, 2 broken ankles and surgery on my left wrist and left ankle. I had to see a MEPS Dr and they had to get me a waiver, but it was no big deal in the end.

Re: Lying to get in the Military

Be honest and here is why....

I have a nephew that is a good kid but made a few bad choice in high school, he tried experimenting with a few "party drugs" and got caught with possession after a traffic accident. He was ordered by a family court to attend treatment. The following summer he joined the navy as a avionics tech., he told his recuitment officer everything and put in all down on the forms he filled out. The recruting officer removed all the info on the incident and my nephew inlisted and completed basic. In AIT he was top of his class and even was even being fast track to his next promition which triggered another background check due to the sensitive nature of his field. On this check the "drug" problem came out and he was called on the carpet before the base commander in Pensacola. My nephew was told he could face a court martial for lying on the forms and recieve a dishonorable discharge. Luckly he kept copies of his enlistment forms, which proved he did not with hold anything, and with backing from his instructors in AIT he was allow a general discharge.

He was lucky.

As for the steroid thing, I don't think I would tell that one. Law enforcement is cracking down on that stuff (I don't agree myself) And you took ONE pill!!! You might as well not taken anything....steroids dont work like that. Anyway...Theres no way in hell they can verify if you did or did not take one little pill. It's just not worth the trouble it will envoke. Next thing they'll be like "Well if he took steroids, what else will he take?"

Yeah, I know all about Integrity is priceless and all, I just don't want to see someone who wants to do something positive with his life get jammed for telling something that NO ONE will know about if YOU don't tell them.

The above stated opinion is SOLEY the opinion of Craven Moorehead and is not indicitive of the views and oppinions of the law enforcement community as a whole.

Re: Lying to get in the Military

The one steroid pill is the only drug I have ever taken. I never told anybody that I took the pill. I regretted it the moment I swallowed it. Anyway, I'm going to call my recruiter today and tell him I'm putting all of my medical records down. I don't have any other problems, never arrested, traffic tickets, or anything like that.

Thanks for all the help,

Jake

Re: Lying to get in the Military

Just called the recruiter.

I explained to him I want to go back and fix everything that wasn't disclosed. Right before I called he sent my medical records over to MEPS. I explained everything to him and he responded with "you're killing me, Jake". I said I know, whatever, I want everything down.

The problem is we cant' find any records regarding my wrist. I asked him if we can't find anything, what should we do? He explained that I would have to see a private doctor to check out my wrist and write a report. Also, I would have to pay the doctor out of pocket.

I wish he would have explained this to me the first time I told him I wanted everything disclosed because now my records have been sent and I'm scheduled to go to MEPS next week.

Good call, being honest with the .mil will not only help keep you out of hot water with them, but also down the road with LE.

Disclose everything now and then go to MEPS and then find out if you need to get a medical waiver or an outside consult. The MEPS Dr may not even care. I new folks that got in with stuff WAY WAY worse than a broken wrist. Hell we had a guy who's feet were so flat his arches stuck out.

Recruiters are dirty used car salesmen.

BTW, Navy is lame, GO AIR FORCE!!!
