I explained to him I want to go back and fix everything that wasn't disclosed. Right before I called he sent my medical records over to MEPS. I explained everything to him and he responded with "you're killing me, Jake". I said I know, whatever, I want everything down.

The problem is we cant' find any records regarding my wrist. I asked him if we can't find anything, what should we do? He explained that I would have to see a private doctor to check out my wrist and write a report. Also, I would have to pay the doctor out of pocket.

I wish he would have explained this to me the first time I told him I wanted everything disclosed because now my records have been sent and I'm scheduled to go to MEPS next week.

going to raise the bullcrap flag on you paying out of pocket for that wrist report from a doctor. Go to meps and disclose the information yourself, they will provide you with a DR, and an Xray. I had a head injury long before I went into the Marines. Had to wait 5 years from the date of injury. Once again the recruiter told me to lie about it, but I didnt, Uncle sam spent a pretty penny to send me to Boston hospitals and get my head checked, Not a dime came out of my pocket. They paid for all the testing and when they were done, I got in.
It might hold you up a little but if this is a dream of yours, chase it, dont be in a rush, this is your life you are talking about, dont cheat it, because you would only be cheating yourself in the end.

Don't worry man, they let Jafish in, and he had 3 arms!

Thanks for the replies

If stitches aren't major, should I disclose it? He wants me to go to MEPS next week. Not sure if he can get the records by then.

Jake
I didnt read all three pages so I apologize if this has already been addressed. The honesty thing, yes to a point. The "Juice" pill you took once Omit it, if you ever smoked weed like once or twice Omit it, if you did drugs but are no clean Omit it. Certain things they can never find out and trust me they dont dig hard on that unless you have a criminal record of use. I did worse drugs for way longer and I still got in.
Injuries, if yoru wrist still bothers you or prohibits you from doing something then by all means tell him, if it doesnt then Omit it, why because if you are let in with it in pain or hurting you wont get any special treatment anyhow. Basic wont be wasy easier for you they are going to treat you just the same as the others.
As for losing retirement, that wont happen. If you get in the military and make it to retirement they arent going to go back 20+ years and say well you gave us X amount of years but we see that back when you were 15 you poped a few pills sorry no money for you. If you make it in and pass Basic you are home free.
I had bad knees when I joined, I went airborne. There is a test we had to do where we squated down and then on command had to drop down on both knees at the same time on a tile floor. I couldnt do this, so I learned how to fall with most of my weight on one knee vs. the one that hurt most. two days till I got the timing right. I am now at year 8 1/2 with 8 months left till I am out for good.
If you want in then keep your mouth shut unless its going to hinder you from doing your job, experimenting is not drug use, its trying it. If you dont want to join the military then tell them everythign or just simply tell the recrutier you dont want in.

Dude if you are going to MEPS already it may already be too late, it sounds like you have already signed the enlistment papers. Like what was already posted be honest but you don't have to disclose every little scrape and stitches you got in your life time. Good Luck.

Re: Lying to get in the Military

Yeah, the recruiter already sent the medical info over to MEPS. I didn't sign a contract, obviously. I did some research and found out that I can go back, while in DEP, and omit anything that I previously did not.

To be honest, this whole process is really agitating me. If the Navy is all about Honor, Courage, Commitment, Integrity, and whatever else, why are current Navy personnel telling me lie? I'm not so sure I want to serve next to those guys. I know that there are plenty of really good guys out there, lots on this site, but I can't stand recruiters.

At this point, I'm thinking of withdrawing my interest ( if that makes sense). If I don't get hired the first time around in Corrections, I'll just get back in school and then try again later until I do.

Uh, as much as I'd love to agree with that, it's not the case.

Yeah, he's just trying to make you lie by saying that. I didn't even see a civilian doc, I just had to make an appointment with the MEPS doc. I did have to get the records, but you'll just have to inform them you can't find them. The more I think about it, I don't think they cared about the broken arms (just did a couple xrays), the only thing they had me get records on and see the MEPS doc about is the 2 surgeries.

I've been seeing a Navy Recruiter for the past couple of months because I plan on Enlisting in the Navy if I don't get hired with PA DOC.

Right off the start my recruiter wanted me to lie about all of my previous medical issues. He simply said to put "NO" on any questions relating to medical history on all of the paperwork they make you fill out. I was caught off guard by being told to lie, so I hesitantly went along with it. After a nights sleep, I called the recruiter and told him I want to disclose everything.

Well, I told my recruiter about all of my medical issues. He got all of the medical records for most. I broke my wrist about 9 years ago, apparently he can't find any info on that, I can't either. He said if we can't find anything, the Navy can't either. Not sure how truthful that is.

Also, I think I'm supposed to disclose any stitches I got but he didn't ask me anything about that. I got stitches on my finger and ankle. I asked him about it and he said we already waited so long for the other medical records to come...blah, blah, don't put anything down.

Lastly, I tried steroids about 5 years ago. I didn't do a cycle or anything (just one pill), he said not to put anything down under substance abuse.

I really don't know what to do. He is relentless and keeps telling me not to worry about it. I don't want to be in the Military for 10, 15, 20 years or so, only to get caught and get screwed out of my retirement, or dishonarably discharged, then I would never get a job in corrections.

Sorry, you guys are all I have. I can't tell anyone I applied to PA DOC or that I plan on Enlisting if I don't get the job.

I guess I can only pray that PA DOC hires me so I don't have to put up with all this BS.

Jake
Disclose everything. I used to be a recruiter for the Army in the early 90's. It sounds like he just doesn't want to do the paperwork (waivers). He's not remembering if you slip up and admit some injury or operation that might disqualify you from enlisting, he could end up doing time and you could be charged with falsifying government documents. So? What career do you have in mind if you get charged with that? "Can I suppe-rsize that for you mam?" Do the right thing young brother.

Re: Lying to get in the Military

Thanks. I've pretty much put the Military on the back burner for now. Basically, if all else fails, I'll reconsider it.
