The TSP Tips & Suggestions Thread

For those of you in the BOP or another Federal agency that allows you to contribute to the TSP, I thought I'd start a thread about it.

I had almost 100% going into the I-fund for about 9 months and for the longest time I couldn't log on to change any of my contributions. Needless to say the I-fund has dropped like a rock in the last few months and I have been losing a lot of money. I-fund was losing 8% or more the last time I checked. I finally made a switch and right now I have all of my money going into the G-fund as it is the only one at the moment gaining anything. This looks to be a bad year for the TSP!

The F-fund is selling cheaper than the G-fund by $0.01 at $12.15 a share. G-fund was $12.16 the last I checked but the only one gaining any interest.

What are your thoughts about the TSP and which funds do you like?

Check out TSP Talk - Thrift Savings Plan .

Personally, I'm backing down to 5% split between cash & bonds, and looking seriously at gold & silver bullion grade coins and gold & silver based IRAs.

Ok, here is something on the TSP that a man with much knowledge and 20 yrs in the BOP gave me. Around Oct every yr, take everything you have in the TSP and move it to the G fund. Everything else will drop a lot. Then sometime around March or April when ever you start to notice things coming back up, put it all in what ever you want to go with.
I researched this and found it to be right. Every year around the same time the TSP drops, then every year around the same time it starts going back up.

That's strange! I guess we'll see if that works this year!

Ive looked into it, and he seems to have a good point about this. As the TSP did start falling in Oct, and here it is March and it is slowly starting to climb again.

I wonder why it's like that? End of fiscal year spendings perhaps? Taxes?
