I was wondering if the facilities that you work at are short on equipment, causing some officers to be without batons, handcuffs or even radios. At my facility the buildings have enough equipment for two pod officers, a patrol and the sergeant. We carry a baton, radio and handcuffs. We keep our pepper. If everyone came to work where I'm assigned we have up to six officers on the floor, three of which do not have equipment. A serious issue that facilities need to address. It's awfully frustrating to see the inmates get new rec equipment and theres officers with no equipment, but unfortunately thats just how it is.

Re: Equipment Shortages
I don't know what we would do with six officers assigned to one unit? And we definitely wouldn't have equipment for them! hmmmmmmmmmmmmm Six officers? wow must be nice!

Re: Equipment Shortages
God forbid the inmates go without and the big bad officers have items to protect themselves......these poor little babies have to have all the luxuries of life.....It's the liberal public's ACLU(American Criminal Lovers Union) hug a thug, newer, kinder, gentler, department of corrections way....
Can you tell I have lost all faith in the general(liberal) public and the way they view crime and our justice system.....

Re: Equipment Shortages
my unit you are lucky if you have a battery for your radio. and they wonder why so many of us have just decided to purchase our own battery. you aren't going to put me in a house with 192 inmates and not give me a working radio should an incident arrise.
Yet the inmates cry about only having one working tv in the dorm or a basketball that's half flat and they jump right on that. sorry in my opinion the officers that are there to protect should come over the inmates. but then again maybe i'm seeing this all wrong because i'm a blonde. lol. |

Re: Equipment Shortages
Our inmates have 6 tvs per unit. One Officer with One radio. No batons, peper or spray. 6 Officers per unit?

Re: Equipment Shortages
Yep not six per unit, six per building. That however is if everyone comes to work. My shift is very rare though. Not only do we have a lot of officers, we all get along very well. Since it's the holidays though, it's what we call "old school" one officer with two pods and a patrol with is three ofc's total. The other shifts are pretty short though.

Re: Equipment Shortages
We're not so much short of equipment as we are short of working equipment. One officer per 2 dorms of 64 inmates and a radio that wont transmit is not really a concern for upper management until they want you for something. But radios arent the only thing feeling neglect. I come across it fairly frequently when going on a trip somewhere. I can either take the busted econoline van or the busted econoline van. Cant take any of the sedans b/c well...just b/c they say so. Ill let it go on the small mundane trips but when the PERT callouts were going on and they tried making me take a crappy van they found out they really didnt have a say in the matter. And also, last I looked, we were short of segregation space.

Re: Equipment Shortages
our facility is decently stocked with equipment how ever we are a small facility. we only have a total of 32 field officers split into 4 rotations and our inmate population is 262. we have a good superintendant also. staff needs come before inmates.
