Whistleblowers
This is off topic.
It came on the news channel today. Our local Fire Department had an incident. Who knows the details, I wasn’t paying attention. But some Whistleblower comes out, says this and says that, then suddenly gets fired. The shame is, the Fire Department has their business opened up to the world…. I’m GLAD the Whistleblowers job was extinguished… (pun intended)… And he will probably have a hard time getting another Firefighting position in the future. But here's why... What I am citing and identifying, is a failure, of sticking together, on this Firefighter Whistleblowers' part. If one guy comes out talking business about other members of the Fire Department, true or not, who knows how loyal this Whistleblower would be, in a burning building during a fire… Is he going to be side by side with his coworkers or, will he be the guy that leaves his comrades behind, in a burning building? If it’s all about action, and not words - then whatever happened to stubborn loyalty? Has it become a relic, of days gone by? |

Re: Whistleblowers
Well, first....I am all for brotherly love and protecting our own. There seems to be little of that nowadays. Loyalty seems to have gone out the door and the ones who snitch in certain instances get rewarded.
However, my second response to this is at least the guy had balls to says something. It might not have been about something that needed to be brought to everyones attention but I am sure most whistleblowers carefully consider their choices. I need to ask those who do condemn whistleblowes and brotherhood....what if he was blowing a whistle on something that could have killed fellow firefighters in a certain situation and he didn't come forward? Is that an instances when whistleblowing would be a good thing? I would have to say yes....it could save lives or even careers. The problem with whistleblowing is that not eveyone gets the full story usually....the guy is put out as a snitch usually by the administration he is either questioning or the people who have been doing something wrong in the first place. Either way the reputation of a snitch is put on the guy even if he was right. I can only say about whistleblowers are to talk to the individual and ask him what he was thinking at the time.....you might get the full story and not have to jump to conclusions. If it is something that was not meant to be put out to the world then communicate this to the persona dn ask why he did what he did....remember in his/her mind he might have though he was doing everyone a favor not just him/herself. Just remeber....if you didn't do anything wrong it shouldn't affect you...if you didn't do anything wrong and it does affect you then bring it to the attention of the person. |

Re: Whistleblowers
WHAT ABOUT SENSELESS RATTING? I LOOKED IT UP.. HERES AN ARTICLE POSTED, WITH ONLY THE DEPARTMENT EDITED OUT. IT SHOWS HERE THAT A SNITCH MADE A WHOLE FUSS OVER NOTHING. AGAIN, I WOULDN'T WANT TO BE IN A BURNING BUILDING WITH THIS GUY.....
More tonight on the allegations of misconduct within the County Fire Department. Former firefighter Jeff Curran told WWAY yesterday he believes he was fired from the department after bringing concerns of others' misconduct to light. Today we spoke to county officials who say a third party did conduct an investigation into an alleged on-the-job affair between two fire department employees. County spokesman Mark said that one of the people accused in the incident passed a lie detector test during the investigation. Curran said in his original e-mail to county officials that he would be willing to pay for a polygraph of his own. Curran says that he received a letter from the county today indicating that a full investigation into the allegations has been conducted and the matter is considered closed. Curran's personnel file indicates Curran was let go for what the Chief describes as "discourteous treatment of other county employees." County officials won't comment directly on what led to Jeff Curran's dismissal, except to say it was not related to his complaint about an inappropriate relationship between supervisors. But, Boyer said today the county did investigate Curran's complaint "thoroughly." Boyer said in the end, the complaint was dismissed because there was no evidence the incident ever happened. Yesterday Boyer told us the county does not have a policy prohibiting relationships between employees. The county's "Respectful Workplace Policy," however, "prohibits disrespectful behavior, including offensive and inappropriate remarks, gestures, material and behavior." |

Re: Whistleblowers
Well, I don't knothe whole story....but like I said before...it really depends on the situation.
By the way do you believe everything you read in the newspaper? Sometimes they are a little bias...like to know all the facts before judgement on anyone. |

Re: Whistleblowers
Well now we're just beating a dead horse but....
And oh what happened then was rich - The firehouse began to pitch, the Snitch took a slitch It landed on the wicked Snitch, in the middle of a ditch Which was not a prosperous situation for, the wicked Snitch The firehouse began to pitch, the Snitch took a slitch It landed on the wicked Snitch, in the middle of a ditch Whhhhich was not a prosperous situation for, the wicked Snitch Who began to twitch, and was reduced to just, a stitch Of what was once the wicked Snitch We know the Snitches snitch. And the ditch, that overcame the Snitch. Oh how this then, is rich...

http://img522.imageshack.us/img522/2...nchkinsbu0.jpg Last edited by Machiavellinc; 08-07-2008 at 12:33 AM.
